I'm as American as they come. I have Coca-Cola for blood and a slice of apple pie for a heart. Every morning I saddle up my bald eagle and fly it to my hive of capitalism where I spend my days basking in the glory that is freedom. In other words I'm conservative and proud. So it is strange that I can derive enjoyment out watching the Netflix show Orange is the New Black for it is loaded to the gills with all the assumptions and "givens" that squirm about like a nest of spiders in the brains of North Eastern Liberal Elites. The kind of thoughts that make my skin crawl. All men are either misogynistic predators or emasculated skinny jeans wearing pussies. Criminals are no different than law abiding citizens it is only that the criminals "got caught". Christians are idiots. The sort of things that would normally have me fumbling for the remote so I could turn off the TV in disgust and go do something wholesome like discussing the state of world affairs with the bust of George Washington mounted on my mantlepiece. (He doesn't talk a lot but he is a good listener) How is this possible? Because the acting and the writing are top notch. The cast is populated by many actors and actresses you have seen other places; Kate Mulgrew of Voyager, Laura Prepon of That 70's show, and Jason Biggs of American Pie. But it also has a bunch of unknowns who just nail their parts, Natasha Lyonne and Uzo Aduba (who rumor has it goes to WBC and is thus twice as cool) are the two that come first to mind. The story itself is able to overcome my natural disgust of lefty claptrap and keep me entertained and intrigued even dispite the over use of graphic "lesbian activity". I don't mind when it advances the story, which it occasionally does, but often it's used in the same way HBO uses sex, as a reminder that "Hey this isn't network TV!" The show is good enough that it shouldn't have to resort to that. It's another big winner for Netflix original programing. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go fire up my big block Chevy Chevelle and head down to the local McDonalds for a Quarter Pounder with cheese.
