You want to know what's creepy? Creepy is an relatively innocent image of a female doing something innocuous when suddenly there are a bunch of strobotic effects with the last image being that same female confronted with a scary face looking at her from a mirror or her being dragged away by her foot. That's what creepy is. Or so the people who make the trailers for what seem like the 800 non-creepy "horror" films a year would have you believe. Now let me tell you what real creepy is. It's a film called The Exorcism of Emily Rose. It's about a girl who dies as the result of an exorcism gone bad and the subsequent trial of the priest responsible. The cinematography and score all serve the bleak desolate tone of the picture and the actors play their roles earnestly and believably. The great thing about this movie is that it does what seems impossible in that it plays both sides of the fence and gets away with it. Was the girl tragically ill with mental psychosis or was she really the captive of demonic forces? In the end it does not matter because whether you are the captive of a diseased mind or otherworldly devils, it's creepy as hell.
