Finally getting an English-version release, this 1991 Studio Ghibli-produced animated film comes to us starring Daisy Ridley in the main voiceover work.
It's beautifully-animated but covers some pretty adult tones of a young woman revisiting her past trying to figure out who she is and what she wants. In Spirited Away, the very young girl gets to find out who she is and what she's made of by interacting with a bunch of magical creatures, but in this there is no magic. It's just the reality and grind of countryside life. So you can't walk into this movie expecting to be whisked away to moving castles or anything of the sort. It's not children's fantasy this time around, but just adult reality and introspection.
I don't think this one is for children. It's more for us.
