Paddington 2 - Barney's Incorrect Five Second Reviews

Only the 1st 2018 movie I've seen and already it's better than 83% of movies I saw in 2017. Stellar start to a new year of movies.

Took 6-year old Emily to see this and we both totally loved it. I couldn't believe how much I was laughing out loud. All the time.

I know nothing of Paddington, not having seen the first one (which I hear is good), nor having read the books. Same with Emily. You don't need to have previous exposure to love this movie. It's a total joy and so, so smart.

Hugh Grant is a blast as are all the supporting cast. Sally Hawkins is great and adds a ton of gravitas to this one surprisingly dramatic scene.

The special effects are perfect and leads to a total suspension of disbelief. Never once did I question, "...so...are these Londoners cool with a bear walking around and talking?"

You don't even need a kid to bring to this. It's perfect on its own for adults.

Super highly recommended.

Saw that this was one of the few movies on Rotten Tomatoes to be at 100% with over 100 reviews. Haven't seen the first one, so figured it was another garbage nostalgia cash in, but now I'm interested. Probably won't be making it to theaters though. The boy is only 14 months, so a little early for that.

No no no...the first Paddington is BRILLIANT. I think it's one of the best kids films in recent memory. It's sweet, good natured, and fun without the usual butt and fart jokes that characterize pretty much all kids movies these days. It's well-written, well-acted and it's just completely charming. Very much excited about seeing the new one.

It was a treat not to have the fart jokes, which--yeah, I mean, farts can be funny, but there were fart jokes in, I think, every single trailer preceding Paddington 2. I hadn't seen the first Paddington movie and really only have vague acquaintance with the character, but I enjoyed the new one quite a bit. (My wife and I went unaccompanied.) It's by turns sweet and funny and touching and genuinely scary in an adventure-movie sort of way. As a plus, I could finally hear and understand something that Peter Capaldi was saying.
