Shadow Hunters
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated May 06, 2019 1012   0

Game Information

It's almost Halloween, so less take a look back at the spooky game - Shadow Hunters by Z-Man Games. There is fairly recent reprint of Shadow Hunters which includes the 10 card expansion with the additional characters, so it would appear that Shadow Hunters has been a popular game and people are still playing it. If you have never played and want to know more about it, you can check out one of our reviews - Shadow Hunters Review by Matt Drake or Shadow Hunters Board Game Review by Shellie Rose . ...
The Downfall of Pompeii Board Game
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated May 06, 2019 1046   0

Game Information

The Downfall of Pompeii, designed by Klaus-Jurgen Wrede, the creator of  Carcasonne, is a Euro-style game that also appealed to Ameritrashers. With its clever placement and movement mechanics, this family favorite had you racing for the gates of Pompeii, while blocking your opponents with hot lava and throwing them into the volcano.

Defenders of the Realm got a lot of ink here on the site - at least 9, including a Monty Python expansion designed by Grudunza, not to mention the infamous "Comic Sans Thread" in Trash Talk.
Wrath of Ashardalon
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated May 06, 2019 1425   0
Wrath of Ashardalon the second game in a series of Dungeon & Dragons board games relased by Wizards of the Coast in 2010 - 2011. The first one, Castle Ravenloft, caused quite a stir. It was a D & D fully cooperative dungeon crawl that didn't a Dungeon Master. It had a simple, yet effective, AI and a highy accessible rule set. Wizards of the Coast followed up with Wrath of Ashardelon, which included campaign rules, in Febuary of 2011; and finally Legend of Drizzt in October of 2011. We have since seen many more fully...

You can listen to it here: Interview with Reiner Knizia
Nexus Ops 1st edition
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated May 06, 2019 1576   0

Game Information

Game Name
Nexus Ops is an Ameritrash game if ever there was one. Bright neon plastic units that practically glow in the dark and a theme not too far removed from Starship Troopers. Move units one space, gather up resources, build a bigger army, smash your units into your enemy and roll to determine the victor. 1st edition by Avalon Hill/Hasbro. 2nd edition by Fantasy Flight Games. Both editions considered by some to be the most garish game ever published. I personally prefer the neon colored monsters in the Avalon Hill version to the after-dinner-mint colors of the...

War of the Ring
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated May 06, 2019 1167   0

Game Information

Last week I got to visit The Eagle & Child pub in Oxford, England, where Tolkien and CS Lewis used to hang out together and ostensibly discuss writing, although I suspect there was some beer dringking going on as well. There was also an awesome Tolkien exhibition in the library, but I totally screwed up and didn't reserve tickets, so I didn't get to see it. Bummer. Anyway, after walking in the foot steps of Tolkien, I'm in the mood for talking War of the Ring. It's a much loved game on this site and needs...

Game Information

Game Name
Puerto Rico, the game that popularized the 'role selection' mechanism, was hugely popular among Eurogamers, and is considered by many to be a classic. Here however, it never got much love. In fact one of our staff writers, Malloc, wrote this blog entitled This Just in...Puerto Rico Sucks Matt Thrower Damned it with faint praise declaring Puerto Rico: Top of it's Class. Shame about the class. So what do you think? Love it? Hate it? Do you Play it?
