What (Modern) Boardgame Have You Played the Most?
Rants & Raves W WadeMonnig Updated October 30, 2018 1830   2
Sometimes, there is a difference between what game you have played the most and what is your favorite. Leaving out the classics board games such Monopoly, Poker, and Clue, that have decades long head starts on modern board games, I tried to narrow down what game I have played the most. Some games, like Coup, have the advantage of short play time and virtually no set-up. Others, like King of Tokyo or Magic, have been around long enough to fall into the modern classic category. Even taking those into account, the game I have played this most is Evolution:...
Defenders of the Realm

Defenders of the Realm got a lot of ink here on the site - at least 9, including a Monty Python expansion designed by Grudunza, not to mention the infamous "Comic Sans Thread" in Trash Talk.    What did you think about it when it was first released? So what do you think about it now? Do you love it or hate it? Do you still play it?

How Dungeons & Dragons Beat Fundamentalism
Rants & Raves SI san il defanso Updated October 08, 2018 1784   0
Every week I take part in something that would have seriously troubled many of the people with whom I grew up. I set up a cardboard shield with a big picture of people fighting a dragon on the front. I unload a stack of hardcover books, gather a couple sets of polyhedral dice, and take on the role of Dungeon Master. My friends and I have been working through the Dungeons & Dragons module Tomb of Annihilation. It's one of the highlights of my week. I'm a Christian, and I play Dungeons & Dragons.

Wrath of Ashardalon the second game in a series of Dungeon & Dragons board games relased by Wizards of the Coast in 2010 - 2011. The first one, Castle Ravenloft, caused quite a stir. It was a D & D fully cooperative dungeon crawl that didn't a Dungeon Master. It had a simple, yet effective, AI and a highy accessible rule set. Wizards of the Coast followed up with Wrath of Ashardelon, which included campaign rules, in Febuary of 2011; and finally Legend of Drizzt in October of 2011. We have...

Never thought I'd see a week of cute animals and creatures here on the site, but here we are. So let's close out the week with this old favorite, push-your-luck game by Reiner Knizia : Pick-Omino (also known as HeckMeck if you have the German version). Also, did you know Barnes once interviewed Reiner Kniza? You can listen to it here: Interview with Reiner Knizia So what do you think of Pick-Omino/HeckMeck? Do you love it or...
Nexus Ops 1st edition
Rants & Raves U ubarose Updated September 14, 2018 788   0
Nexus Ops is an Ameritrash game if ever there was one. Bright neon plastic units that practically glow in the dark and a theme not too far removed from Starship Troopers. Move units one space, gather up resources, build a bigger army, smash your units into your enemy and roll to determine the victor. 1st edition by Avalon Hill/Hasbro. 2nd edition by Fantasy Flight Games. Both editions considered by some to be the most garish game ever published. I personally prefer the neon colored monsters in the Avalon Hill version to...

Citadels, by Bruno Faidutti , is one of the earliest role selection games. Although we don't have a single review or discussion of it here on the site other than Ken. B's mini review on the game's directory page , I know it is one that many of you have played. Back in the day, it was recommend to new gamers almost as frequently as Lost Cities. So what ever happened to it? It is still in print, so people must still be buying it and playing it. How about you?...
