"Hold on with a bulldog grip, and chew and choke as much as possible."
Abraham Lincoln

LINCOLN'S WAR is my card-driven American Civil War board game with a strong political twist. Players represent either Lincoln or Davis who make the crucial decisions that either prolong the conflict or bring it to a swift close. In four-player games, each team of two represents his respective President and the President's Chief Field Commander.

LINCOLN'S WAR, currently on MMP's preorder list, revolves around historical personalities and their influence. By manipulating the influence of their compatriots, players decide when and how to enter into military build-ups and field campaigns (the scope includes the building and utilizing of navies). Within LINCOLN'S WAR, Card versatility, chain of command, combat and victory conditions are all unique approaches to Civil War gaming.

I began LINCOLN'S WAR a decade ago while out of work in Pittsburgh (a nice place to hang, when you're out of work). I researched and winnowed through scads of major personalities involved in the war, including such notables as John Brown, Harriet Tubman, Varina Davis and Walt Whitman. I wanted to create a campaign game that involved as many overlooked civil war personalities as I could. Sadly I've had to shed many of those worthy folks along the way. Still, with the exception of campaign cards, each card in each deck (US and CS factions use separate 72 card decks) represents a different, colorful Civil War character, I hope you find some surprises among them. Many are politicians who sometimes cheered and sometimes jeered their Commanders' in Chief. Each provides personal influence or Political Currency (PCs) proportional to the influence they wielded during the war. Political Currency is the lifeblood of the game.
