I had never even heard of the game WORMHOLE: THE SATHRICANS before seeing the most amazing set-up at Ars Technica. The game is a pretty intense space combat sim that comes entirely in a PnP ("Print n' Play") file from the vendor, WorldWorksGames. Here's a shot to show the scale:
But wait, there's more! The poster at Ars Technica set up the game using a projector hung from the ceiling to display a background and used PixelStick to calculate the firing range and movement rates of the ships!
I'M NOT DONE. He got a WiiMote and set that up to use a light pen. Watch this demo movie to have your eyes' ass kicked.
AAAH, THERE'S MORE! He set up a supply run scenario that had asteroids crossing the field of play on (sometimes massive) orbits. They were doing their normal thing, chugging along, and then all breaks loose when an asteroid comes into view every eight minutes --if it hit their ship, they rolled for damage.
Oh man, I have to stop. The folks in that thread are debating using more than one WiiMote to improve light pen usage, and perhaps expand to three dimensions. Also looking at perhaps using reactable to track the ships directly using unique stamps on them.
Brandon Kahler, creator of this marvel, this and you are awesome. Respect where due--this is AT in a whole new world.
