Expanding BSG?

Hot
GS Updated
There Will Be Games

I posted this in the forums but I really like my idea for BSG expansions, so I put it here in the blogs.  Don't read too far if you've never seen the series and want to, I'm going to spoil the second season a little for you.  But I think the second season provides an awesome opportunity to expand the game in more than just quantity.

The question I was pondering was how would I make an expansion for BSG? It's a very self contained game, tense and pretty well balanced.  Just like, IMHO, the first season of Battlestar Galactica the series, which is by far its best.

The obvious route is to put more cards in there.  Fitter, happier, more productive or whatever.  Sort of a really standard Runebound style FFG expansion.  The BSG boardgame as it stands is obviously just from the 1st season. Nearly all the crises are the first season, as are most of the characters and the destination is Kobol, from the 1st season.  Put a new, slightly different destination in.  The obvious thing is to make a new crisis deck with situations from season 2, then season 3, then season 4, wring blood out of this stone and maybe sprinkle in some alternate skill cards each time as well. Eventually after a couple of expansions FFG would have raped enough money out of it to get what they wanted.  I hope it doesn't go that way, but it certainly is set up to if they want.  I'm not sure I'd buy that kind of expansion, I don't think it's necessary--however I've got a, I think, *much* more interesting idea for a bigger box expansion:

Ok, so the second half of season 2 is all about the introduction of the Pegasus (a second battlestar) into the fleet.  The fleet meets a remaining Battlestar that has been chased by the Cylons as well.  It has had it awfully rough, and its admiral is far tougher: shooting crewmen, leading by fear, concripting all civilians.  The ship itself is more advanced, has a totally different crew but the crews and admirals from both ships don't trust each other.

I think you might be able to work in more paranoia into the game by introducing a new small Pegasus locations board w/better vipers and weapons, making the Cylon crisis cards far more powerful but having two separate ships with each player being a crew member from the Pegasus or the Galactica.  I don't know how it would play out but I think that would be fairly fascinating.  The key would be objectives.  One could somehow make objectives for each ship to try to swing the civilian ships to its plan of action or whatever it wanted to do--say still have one president but make it so there are two admirals and each one has different loyalties and goals (wants to win over the other admiral) but still both want to survive against the Cylons overall.  So you'd have crews playing against each other while still trying hard to keep humanity safe.  You could have crewmates switching sides, different resources, a ton of opportunities for intrigue between ships as well as paranoia of Cylons.

What say you all?  What do you think we'll see as an expansion for BSG?
