I haven't played it in years, but it's a good introduction to the zombie game genre. It's pretty light, and my main complaint is that most of the scenarios come down to searching through a deck of cards to find certain items. This can lead to wild swings in difficulty based on whether that one particular card was near the top or the bottom of the search deck. The game seems to favor the zombies slightly, but good cooperation and a little luck on the Heroes part can help them win. Yes, there is a lot of randomness through the dice and cards, but there are also quite a lot of tactical decisions throughout and even some long-term strategy that can be employed, depending on the particular scenario. I think the ideal number for the game is either 3 or 5, with one zombie player and either 2 players controlling 2 Heroes each or 4 players controlling one Hero each. But the game also works well for 2 and plays up to 6 (where the zombie duties are split between 2 players), and it even plays okay solitaire, using a basic "auto-pilot" system for the zombies. This is probably my favorite game to play, as I know it will be a lot of fun and have some drama and story to it. Last Night on Earth is a game that isn't going to provide you with a lot of opportunities to write the script of the story it tells. It's very likely that if you're one of the heroes you will spend your time searching, and when you're not searching you're likely going to be moving from one place to another. Combat is an awkward affair that generally results in a push. If you're running the zombies you move them one space and churn your cards. The game is 95% driven by the story it paints, and that story is likely going to be well out of your control and the control of everyone else at the table. If you're comfortably watching the story play out in front of you, you'll likely enjoy the game. The bits are plush and the game certainly has its own look and feel. But that lack of player involvement was a showstopper for me. Scenario play keeps things fresh, it's a nice blend of co-op/all against one as even the zombies can play as a team. The combat system isn't terribly deep--it's more of "roll against a number, hope for the best." I do like the need to match dice to get a true "kill" of a zombie, because those suckers are meant to be hard to put down. I'm very impressed with this game, I think it needs just a hair more depth but that's what expansions are for. Even though my brother owns this game, I'm tempted all the time to pick up a copy, just to have it. Zombie movies, The Walking Dead comic, The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z books. Zombies are great and provide wonderful social commentary or they can just be gory fun. Last Night on Earth plays like one of those straight-to-DVD flicks rather than Dawn of the Dead, but that's OK. Last Night on Earth has simple gameplay, lots of different scenarios and great bits. And let me tell you about the soundtrack! Wait, don't let me tell you about the soundtrack, it's terrible. I haven't played the Growing Hunger expansion yet as I still haven't played through all of the scenarios in the base game.
