Not what you'd expect, but still a pretty good coming-of-age story. I find this to be the most misleading trailer since Drive. I was expecting a super casual and light comedy about coming-out. Instead, I got Perks of Being a Wallflower morphing into You've Got Mail and then trying a Never Been Kissed type of epilogue. Luckily 2/3rds through the movie it turns into some pretty heavy drama and I think those are the best parts of the movie. The act of voluntarily versus involuntarily coming-out to your friends, to your family. Those moments are exceptionally...

An alternative Cubelock that doesn't feel quite as awful.

In September of 2017, the dev team for Hearthstone implemented a number of nerfs to Basic set cards that they felt were too much of a constant in the game. No Druid deck would ever play without Innervate and no Warrior deck without Fiery War Axe. In Shaman's case, the hammer fell on Hex, which was long regarded as the best single-target removal card in the game. In their explanation for why Shaman had been targeted despite not being anywhere near the top of the meta and with only one mildly competitive deck (Evolve/Jade), they stated that “Shaman is...

In a word, authentic. They pull off something here that Clint Eastwood just can't seem to nail (using non-actors to make it feel real). It makes for a pretty emotional and highly engaging film. Similar in many ways to The Wrestler, but instead of a daughter who doesn't need him, you have a sister who very much does need him. The cinematography is off the charts, reminding me of Legends of the Fall, Brokeback Mountain, Dances with Wolves and just a smidgen of Hell or High Water. (the various movie studios pay...

Iello's Fairy Tile, designed by Matthew Dunstan and Brett Gilbert, asks players to complete a bespoke story by positioning three figures representing a knight, a princess and a dragon around a modular board.

This makes me realize that Valkyrie should have been a comedy perhaps. This is a really good political comedy on what transpired after the death of Joseph Stalin and how the committee quickly schemed to gain control and advantage in the hours and days directly after. There's some pretty funny stuff going on but it's not going to be for everyone. One guy in the theatre was cracking up at some parts, I was laughing at others. It will certainly hit people differently. Steve Buscemi is good, Jeffrey Tambor is...

It was a filthy, awful hole. The furniture was ancient, the carpets torn and the wallpaper peeling. There was food mouldering in the fridge when we moved in. But it was cheap and so it was home. It consisted of two rooms. One was a kitchen diner with a bed in it. The other, mine, was a bedroom with an en-suite toilet. I used to lie in bed in the mornings, listening to my flat-mate take a dump while I smoked cigarettes to cover the smell. My small collection of games lived on a high shelf...

The most compelling thing about Ganesha Games’ Four Against Darkness isn't that it appeared seemingly out of nowhere to climb the top games ranking over at another board games site two years after its release. It's that it flies so defiantly in the face of trend, daring a couple of generations' worth of gamers that have been reared on mountains of heart tokens, endless doom trackers, and scores of bubblegum machine figures to go back to the basics.

Children are not as foolish as adults sometimes think. I put three figures of stuffed toys in front of mine: a rabbit, a lion and a patchwork doll armed with a pencil. "Choose one to play," I suggest. They look suspicious. One rummages in the pile of plastic from the box and pulls out a pig with a rattle. "Why can't I play this," she asks. I explain that this is a storytelling game that will unfold over many sessions. That we have to meet the pig in the story before someone can play him. ...
