In 2010 Michael Barns wrote in his review of Runewars: "Runewars is, as many of us know by now, a pretty great game. I like it a lot, and after owning it for about a month I still want to play it week in and week out, which is a good sign. I think it's got legs, and I think over time its stature will grow with expansions." What do you think? Is it pretty great? Did it have legs?

Fantasy wargames have a sad history of being far too much wargame and not enough fantasy, tired repetitions of stacking limits and zones of control but with dragons in place of Panzers. Adventure board games, in a similar vein, have always struggled with the inherent problems of making a genre that celebrates individual achievement and massive power differentials into an interactive, strategic form. Runewars seems like Fantasy Flight's attempt to solve both these problems at one stroke.

RUNEWARS is, as many of us know by now, a pretty great game. I like it a lot, and after owning it for about a month I still want to play it week in and week out, which is a good sign. Got through 3 games, 1 new and 2 revisits. 1) Runewars My second run through was again 2p, but this time we used the elves and the 'beasts' for lack of a better term. Much better game both due to me winning and that the rule kinks were ironed out. The map layout was key here...lining up lots of food seems key since in the winter you are working off your food reserve. If you have 8...

Runewars has been the first game I have actively been anticipating for quite some time. Unlike lots of games which ride in on a wave of hype and then languish on the shelf I fully intended to get the game on the table and played asap. I preordered from Coolstuffinc and had it Friday, then we aimed to play the next day. I spent Friday night setting the game up so my brother inlaw and I could just hit the game full force. Sometimes the FFG games setup steps is like a mini game...

Muster your forces and make your claim to power! Strategy, diplomacy, and adventure abound as RuneWars pits players against each other in a strategic game of battles and area control, where they must gather resources, raise armies, and lay siege to heavily fortified cities in their quest for dragon runes and ultimate domination of Terrinoth. Rooted in the same fantasy universe as Runebound and Descent: Journeys in the Dark, RuneWars features over 200 beautifully rendered cards and tokens, as well as nearly 200 finely-detailed plastic miniatures, and a fully customizable, modular board consisting of hexagonal pieces that beautifully convey...
