This week on Brainwaves we are bringing you a series of interviews we conducted at Tabletop Scotland. This convention took place in Perth on the 24th and 25th of August, 2019. We spoke to the sponsors of the convention, various retailers, exhibitors and some friends of the show. We hope you enjoy.

Even if the price is right, it might not be right for you. We all have different thresholds where a board game we're interested in crosses from, "maybe I'll wait for a sale" into "sure why not" territory, but where is that magical line? Has what we're willing to pay for games changed over time? 

Some board games (and board game podcasts) thrive on chaos, which absolutely isn't the same thing as randomness. All of this has happened for a reason, it's just... hard to tell what those reasons are exactly. 

While all games have some restrictions, some games are more willing than others to let you go off the rails. For instance, some leave the economy entirely in the hands of the players, free to tank it if they please. 

We've learned a thing or two about game nights and conventions over the years. The hobby has changed, and we've had to change with it! 

Iain is trying to fit the entire studio in a fridge to escape the cool weather, while Jamie goes for a more practical solution.

How do you deal with the death of your character?

We're running components through our fingers this week, because we're ranking our favourite games that require dexterity. Whether it's flicking, stacking, or balancing, dexterity games tend to offer a respite from brain burning crunchiness, and a chance to exercise actual muscles. Before our hands tremble, we talk about The Wizard Always Wins, Genoa, and Paku Paku.

Hello, again, Germany! Well, we don't actually ever go to Essen, but boy do we wish we could. There are always so many games that debut at Essen SPIEL that we wish we could play or buy... and this year is no exception! We're counting down the games we would most anticipate getting our hands on if it weren't so goshdarn far.

Mike Walker from So Very Wrong About Games joins us to talk about games that we add to our collection, not for ourselves, but (gasp) for others.
