InfinityMax wrote: That's a spectacular point, Wookie. Just because the game is done changing does not mean you can't play it any more. It's not like you go, 'well, I changed everything that can change. Guess I throw it away now.' At some point, you just play the same thing again. If you're still playing other games after 20 years, and they haven't changed any, this shouldn't even faze you.

If it sells well, there may even be an expansion so you can keep changing it!

Or if your group is creative enough, you could make house rules to keep changing it.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I am pretty sure that it means exactly what he thinks it means. At some point, due to component restrictions, the game will be done.

No, it won't. The world will be finalized. You can continue to play games in that world until you're 93 and beyond. There is nothing "disposable" about it. It will go at some point from dynamic to static, but that doesn't mean that it's now garbage and can be thrown out. That's just bullshit, and to insist so is to either be utterly obtuse or willfully antagonistic.

But then, what is the point of having this particular game? The point of the game is to build an ongoing narrative. I just want to know how long I can play this game as intended, how much it will cost, and how different the end result will be than the original state (both on average and in the extremes)?

Then, if it is a static state, how does it compare to all the other Risks that I own:

Risk
Castle Risk
Godstorm
Risk 2210
Star Wars OT Risk

I think it is a great idea, btw. But to not discuss the potential shortcomings is kind of silly.

Play before buying.

Not a slight, just a fact.

At $60 I think a lot of people are going to use Post-It notes for their first couple of games. I'm not one to get the rules completely right on the first play.

I usually buy the games in my group, but we've already discussed sharing the costs of future copies. $12 a pop is nothing if the game is fun and the claims of replay value match up.

The cost will definitely scare some people. Seems pretty similar to video games, in terms of what you get out of it.

First time I've read a discussion here, where the analogous one on bgg has fewer ninnies piping in. This game sounds awesome. If you are going to cry about putting sticker on it or writing on it, ...

Click on the Sell Sheet link near the bottom and you can see what your retailer gets for promotional materials.

"Play it. Change it. Make it yours." That's the kind of ad copy you get when a big organization is doing the promotional materials.
