Risk: Legacy...

Alliance exclusive? Really? Huh...they are the biggest distributor, but still, that's kind of weird and it does limit its availability to some extent.

I'm actually not very interested in buying it. The concept is interesting and definitely maverick, but there are some implementation issues (sorry, but making permanent changes to your game isn't "macho", it's bad product design) and I'm in the "how will I get my group to play Risk ten times" camp...I think the _next_ game that tries this kind of "living campaign" will be the one to get.

Talking out your ass, Mikey, when it comes to the changes. It's not a matter of bad design at all. It's a matter of design choice. It's novel, and the fact that it's truly persistent is unlike anything ever made to this point.

Not entirely true. My copy of Axis and Allies has TONS of character after hundreds of plays. We still call a big stain on Karelia Beeringrad. Also, half of the AA guns have been replaced with those weird little flattened marble things than magic players tend to have tons of. We consider these "glass cannons" to be manned by twins because they always seem to shoot down bombers in pairs or not at all. These are all persistent changes.

*sigh*

It's not about "character". It's about changing the game. If the big stain was earned by a player and gave them a bonus on that continent, and if the glass beads were put there to mark guns that were destroyed by a weapon earned by Germany in a previous game..then maybe.

It's one of those things that you can talk all the shit about you want until you play it and start making the changes. The game is profound. I didn't want it, I didn't think I'd like it, and I initially thought that the changes were just a gimmick. Then I got my hands on it. Changed my opinion fast.

Nicholson has posted a video of his first three games. The first one didn't last even two times around the board, but the second appeared to go longer. Anyone with experience want to indicate whether that's common?

Some games are VERY short, like 30 minutes and with not all territories claimed. Some are wars of attrition. Just depends.

I give that video two snaps up in a circle just for the bear reference.
But I had to turn it off before the spoilers.

So what is the single longest game anyone has played of this so far?

I played with 4, an hour and 45 minutes. Some pussy shit going on though...some ganging up and then all out warfare...nobody could get an upper hand because it was playing out like Cosmic...the guy with 3 stars would get beat to piss, but then one guy would take choice territories while they were battling it out when they said they would join in the fracas.

That was an exception, though, I think.
