I think Mansions is a great game and the real knock against it is the poor production/errors during printing. The game had such positive buzz until all that stuff came out...the game may never recover. Still, I'll let FFG iron that stuff out and I'll gladly continue to support MoM once I know the production issues have been corrected.
Playing as the Keeper is fun and so is playing as the investigators. I agree with Uba...trying to figure out the clues and where to go is pretty enjoyable. Its a race to beat the clock and it's a scavenger hunt. I like it.
The game is ambitious and it certainly isn't perfect, but there are so few games that even attempt to do what Mansions does. That alone keeps me coming back.

How about a scenario where there is just a card or two in every room, with no clues and no timer? Just let the investigators explore while the keeper periodically springs monsters or cultists on them, trying to just eliminate investigators.
Why not? It's your game. You have the tools to create any scenario you want. Personally, I already own HeroQuest, Last night on Earth, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and probably a couple of others that do the find random stuff, kill monsters and try not to die thing pretty well already.
I like the clues and the timer. Some scenarios use the clues and the timer better than others. Some do a better job of making it less obvious which rooms are important. I like that the timer can introduce new elements into the game. I like that the clues can be used to lead the investigators to useful and necessary items, rather than having to find them randomly.
The system is sound. You can do all kinds of things with it. It just hasn't been fully explored yet.
