I own the GW edition and have played both it and the FFG edition ..... but since you're the spineless prick who whined off to the admins about me when opinions on your drug dealing bro weren't to your liking then you're shit out of luck cocksucker.

I only have played the new one (big fan) so I'm no good for this thread I'm afraid.

Now, we'll come on to Warrior Knights in a minute but first, as someone who has no knowledge at all of the details of this little spat, can I just butt in and say that I think it's great that we can see this sort of thing going on over here without a "grown-up" stepping in and stopping the fight? Sort it out between yourselves like grown men!

Warrior Knights is one of the best old-school conflict games around, but it is very much old-school: long, fairly complex, and prone to diplomacy overriding mechanics. If you're happy with that sort of unreconstructed fare, you'll enjoy it. If you prefer things more refined then you probably won't.

In terms of facing up to the FFG edition, my opinion is that one is no better than the other. FFG smartened it up, smoothed off the rough edges and made it more integrated, streamlined package for the modern audience. However, in doing so they took much of the interest out of the game, hence the common complaints that the game ends when it feels just like it's getting started. If you change the victory conditions and play for longer it ends up being very much more like the original.

As an aside, this is the problem with game companies "updating" old designs. In doing a modern update, what made the older game interesting and enjoyable is often removed in the process. Companies that republish games should just republish them pretty much straight - and if they see an idea in an older game that they like, far better to spend the development time and effort in growing something new from a worthwhile seed than trying to redevelop a game into something it wasn't meant to be.
