Whether it's worth buying the old one over the new depends entirely on what you want out of a game. The new one boasts updated production values, a more readily digestible set of rules and a streamlined approach you can use when you want a shorter game - or if you want a longer game you can just extend the victory conditions.

If both were up at the same price, I'd buy the new version. If you attach high importance to component quality, buy the new version. However if you already own the old version I see no need to update unless you want the shiny bits. Similarly, in the UK at least the reprint sent prices of the original tumbling and it's much cheaper to buy an old 2nd hand copy than a new one.
