The Hell Game

Anyone played this? Looks like a great Halloween game.

I made the thing. It is a good game. Still.

It's on my wish list for future purchases. I like the concept and the look of the game, but there are other items higher on my list. Still, if I was standing at the game store holding a copy, I might have a tough time walking away from it without buying.

I've tried to get Frank Branham to pull this off his shelf and play it with me but he adamantly refuses which is a bad sign. He'll play almost anything if it has at least some redeaming qualities. I've even insisted that I wanted to play and his reply was: "No. No you don't."

Did I mention he has a gift for understatement?

I've just brought it home. The components are great except for the box which is supposed to "protect my game from the wrath of elements for a long, long time" but it barely survived the shipping to Czech Republic. I will let you know how the game was when I get it to the table.

So I played my first game with my friend who plays guitar in a death metal band so he had no problem with the theme (especially when he played the Death metal card). The game is fun and there were significant shifts of power during it which we loved. At first it seemed like a huge luck fest but after few turns we realized the strategies that lurk beyond this curtain. I have one concern, though, with the "influence units" action, it feels like it's too powerful. It take sone demon with 5 or 6 stars to steal you a lieutnant along with his legions which kind of ruins the purpose of buying lieutnants for me especially when you can boost your influence with souls. But apart from this the game is very good and there were few remarkable moments during it (my friend boosted his Beelzebub with a card that gave the demon 1 skull for 5 skulls total which kinda ruined my chance to hit his units in the last sector I needed in order to win. I felt it was overpowered but than I realized that 2 turns earlier I had thrown away a card which could keep Beelzebub from using his save rolls. Another way to overcome this is was to conquer another sector as I was much more richer in terms of souls and he was under pressure. I really like this game and can't wait to try it with more players I am sure it will make for a great carnage.
Btw: The game - 1600 Kč (like 80$), beer drunk during the game - 100 Kč, the look in the people's faces when they see a game with demons and pentagram and hear two guys shouting "the molester's purgatory is mine now! - priceless

It is good form to actually describe the Evil Deeds you do on Earth. And Belzebub should allways be announced like in Bohemian Rapsody. "beHELL-seBUBB" (has a devil put aside...)
