Corey Konieczka and FFG have posted 4 variants for BSG. Solo, 2 player, Fully Cooperative and No Sympathizer. Enjoy!

When did BGG take over FFG?

Maybe they did maybe they didn't.

However, in the end every thing worked out great for BSG and FFG. The timing of the launch was perfect. The game was launched in November in time for Christmas on Amazon and at Border. The game was launched with the “real” rules and the right number of players. I’d rather have the a game list that it plays between 3 – 6 players and post some optional rules to play the game with 1 – 2 players than to list that it can be played with 1- 8 players. That prevents some poor sap from buying the game thinking they can play the “real” game with 1 – 2 players. FFG even put a disclaimer on the optional rules. I also have more confidence trying out an official FFG variant than anybody variant on BGG.

Awesome. I was going to start playing it as a straight-up 2-player co-op (no loyalty cards) with my girlfriend, but I'll use Corey's variant instead.

Wow ... I'd given up on purchasing BSG, mostly due to the lack of a reliable gaming group and the overall impression that it was (generally speaking) a "more, the merrier" game.

But, man, if the wife and I could play two-player ... of if I could solo it ...

*Sigh* Seriously, I think I'll just give Christian Peterson my credit card.

So, anyone tried the 2 player or the solo variant? I passed on BSG because most of the time we're just 2 playing...

I haven't played the two player variant, but honestly you will not get much out of this game if you don't have at least 3 players. As a solo exercise I suspect it is pretty bland.

Two-player is okay, but nowhere near the real experience.

Thanks! I don't think I'll be picking up this one then... At least Android is perfectly playable with just two, so I won't complain :)

I tried the solo variant and yeah, it was pretty bland, especially compared to the 4 player game I played otherwise. It's also tedious, because it ended up being that for a lot of turns, I would end my turn with 14-15 cards and have to discard down to 10, then immediately draw 5 more for the start of my next turn.

I think that a solo version playing it as a co-op controlling 3-4 characters would be a lot better, which is usually the case for most co-op games. I'm hoping to try that sometime soon, and I'll report back if I do. It might be a little bit unwieldy to deal with the 3-4 different characters and their sets of cards, but probably no more so than playing LOTR or AH solo.

I'll add my voice to the legions declaring the solo version to be so-so. It's a useful way of learning the rules though, so you can speed up the play time for face-to-face games.
