Anyone ever play
The Legend of Robin Hood
?
Not to be confused with Legends of Robin Hood which is apparently a shit game.
I've heard The Legend of Robin Hood is quite fun. I like the asymmetrical nature of how the play sounds. Plus being Robin Hood is really cool.
This is about as close to a "grail" game as I've got. I've just yet to actually bite the bullet and pick it up.

Way back in the mists of F:AT's early history, I did a review of it. I think it was literally the second article I ever posted.
Short story- it's great. It's a small, compact design with pretty simple rules but it has a a TON of theme. It really captures the high points of the Robin Hood story and has a lot of cool details, like how Robin has to run around and convince people to join him- sometimes by beating them in combat. There's a break-in-to-the-castle thing going on, trying to stop Maid Marian from getting married, going to jail and possibly getting executed...lots of neat things going on and it's definitely deserving of your "grail" status.
Man, talking about it really made me want to play it.

When I heard you could rob people going through Sherwood and try to stop Maid Marian from getting married I was pretty much sold.

Legends of Robin Hood
isn't too bad, it's a simple card game that was OK - been a few years since I played it so can't give much more info.
Then there is Robin Hood which I have but haven't managed to convince enough people to play yet. It's a multiplayer where each player plays a faction and you play a scenario. It was only printed in German and the only English translation available (anywhere) is one made from a Swedish translation - I've been slowly checking/correcting it against a set of rules (done on a dot matrix printer) that came with my copy.

LEGENDS OF ROBIN HOOD (not the singular title) was also designed by Courtney F. Allen, whom you may remember from such games as UP FRONT. I've never played that one, I always hear that it's terrible but I wonder if it's not that old "Eurosnoot hates old game" thing going on again.

I still pull out my worn copy every once in a while. It's one of my favorite old AH games. I'd love to see Z-Man or FF update it and give it an aesthetic makeover, because it still holds up. There have been many design and production innovations in the intervening tears that could be used to streamline the game and bring it up to the accessibility of, say, LotR: The Confrontation.
