Tales of the Arabian Nights - further delay

Bummer news, Zev posted on TOS that Tales of the Arabian Nights is getting a hefty delay. He found some discrepancies in encounter paragraphs, cards, matrices, etc. He doesn't give a good estimate of when its release will be but he says best guess is May or June.

A total bummer, but I think we all agree we'd rather have a bug-free game than something rushed.

I'm glad he posted an update. Your read of his post was more generous than my own , but I read his post as saying "the encounter matrix was completely fucked." Considering that he does seem to actually playtest shit and it sounds like the rewrite work is a 1 or 2-person effort [plus the printing lead-time, which is, what 6-8 weeks?], I just can't imagine it's going to be out before late autumn.

No, no, just move it onto your order with your copy of the MMP Up Front reprint and you'll be fine!

Well yes, everything sounds basically screwed up. And as he said he doesn't have 100% time to dedicate to fixing it so yeah, I think it's going to be a long long time unfortunately.

I really want to try this out. I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Well remember, Zev is a new yawker and they do tend to exaggerate things a bit. "We're totally fucked" in new yorker-ese translates to "we have a couple of minor problems."

They would probably likewise translate my WV-ese, so take it for what its worth.

Anyone who played the old version care to comment on the interaction level? I want to like adventure games but I always get this feeling of multiplayer solitaire where the only interaction is watching your friends do the same shit you are.

You're spot on Tom. However, I do enjoy the game and have played it 4-5 tims so far. Its the kind of thing you'll pull out every six months, play with three people and then bury it again.

If you want a similiar experience on the cheap, I reccomend Star Treck Encounter. Its weighted towards the Federation but is a ton of fun to play. I got my copy form Star Fleet Trading company for $20 + shipping.

The latest German edition had some optional rules which allowed you to use your skills on other players. This could have quite drastic effects; a few skills could eliminate other players from the game.

You could also use the optional acting rules, which really encourage you to re-enact the encounters, and probably play the most interactive board game ever published.

Other than that the base game is just multiplayer solitaire.
