Silent Death by ICE -- should I buy?

I've been toying with the idea of picking up Silent Death or Silent Death: The Next Millennium by Iron Crown. Can anyone who's played give me a recommendation one way or the other?

It is good. Still one of the more playable space combat games around.

Also good is Hard Vacuum (which gets a lot of points for a nice inertia based movement and Nazis in space.)

It's been 15 years since I played silent death. I played them in my heyday of minigames(along with 40K and Legions of Steel). But I as much as I could remember I really liked the variety and the details in the rules. Yet easy to pick up and start paying in no time flat.

I loved just the massive amount of different ship types you could play with, and the background story was interesting.

I would suggest it if you want a game that isn't as complex as star fleet battles, yet still with good depth.

Thank you gentlemen.
I played Star Fleet Battles as a kid and the sheer volume of the rules simply became to heavy to deal with -- pushed out too many other hobbies. This sounds like a nice fit for me if I can get my "it looks complicated" friends to give it a spin. I think I'll buy.

I can't speak for Silent Death, but for space combat games, I would recommend both Starmada and Federation Commander. Federation Commander is a far superior game, but is restricted into the Starfleet Universe, for good or ill. Starmada allows you to build your own ships with a variety of technology. It's simple and fun. The only problem is that technologies aren't well balanced, so certain fleets can annihilate others with little problem. It has a sort of scissors-paper-stone thing going on, which can be cool, but if the fleets aren't well diversified, can be lame.

FYI, I noticed that ICE is moving toward selling ships individually and there blister pascks are on liquidation. Many core ships are gone but there is still a variety of others.
