Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)
Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
Shadow War: Armageddon
I do see some models in the army sheets that don't appear anywhere. Is there anything which says which models are used for which? Example: Tyranid New Spawn

To differentiate, one might consider using certain head bits or even a differing color.
But for me, I solve the problem with a dot of color or a decal along the side of the base and match that to applying the same on the roster. Solves this problem easily.

I would suggest building your Tau team to consist of one Sha'Sui, two Ion Rifle dudes, two Rail rilfe dudes, and the rest with the standard Pulse Carbine. Then one of each of the drones on the KT sheet- Recon, Grav Inhibitor, Pulse Accelerator. You can designate your regular dudes as Cadets or Pathfinders depending on your build. Their stat lines are the same but the Cadets are 10 points cheaper. But they can not help your other guys get up with an early recovery test at the beginning of the turn. And Cadets can not comprise half of your team.
With Tyranids, do the Scything Talons on all of them. But do one that is melee focused- either a pair of Boneswords or a Bonesword and Lash Whip. Or do another pair of Scything Talons. Make one a Deathspitter. Make the last one a Gunbeast with a Venom Cannon.

They are among the fastest units in the game- M6, so they are running/charging 12". They are a blitz team- run up and start stabbing. They won't survive an extended firefight with a gunline force such as Tau or Skiitari so you keep them in cover as best you can.
They do have a great basic ranged weapon with the Splinter pistols, which are toxic and wound ANYTHING on a 4+ regardless of the target's Toughness. They have plenty of pointy and sharp things.
Now, one of the really neat things is that their specialists aren't heavy weapons. They have the Bloodbrides, which are equipped with special gladiatorial weapons- like chain flails and the classic net and spear combo.
A big weakness, however, is that they don't have swords so they lack a parry. That said, if you outfit them with Chainhooks (which you are going to want to do because they look awesome), they nullify an opponent's parry.
OH...and DRUGS. They take drugs. D6 roll determines what they are jacked up on. If you get +1 attack, your leader is getting 4 attacks. The WS boost is awesome, putting them at a base 5 WS- upper tier melee right there.
Model wise they are OK. A little tricky to paint. But it's fun that you can goth them out. They are really kind of closer to the old Necromunda gangs, too.
Harlequins- I don't have them but they are fast, cheap and out of control. They are undoubtedly the top tier. High statlines, super high mobility, lots of killer weapons, great equipment. Pretty much anyone playing the game "seriously" (yech) will be running Harlies at some point. They are kind of like the popular Net Deck of the game right now.
Modeling wise, you have to lean into the space elf clown thing to appreciate them. They are what I would consider to be very challenging to paint, and they look a mess with a tabletop quality paint job. So I've shied away from them for now. Painted well though, they look really awesome.

I've played a couple goth elves vs goth elves games and they have been the most satisfying yet.

About scenery. Yesterday I realized how much details there is on the catwalks and shield panels. The catwalks in particular look like something from Alien (or Fifth Element, depending your color choice). I agree with Barnes that there's no need to paint all of it, but to make sure some details pop up. Having said that, I set out to paint every element and that plus washes took me a good couple of hours, but I'm really happy with the results. I also like the abandoned-after-a-catastrophe aesthetics, and this scenery is just great for that (the computer terminals are look particularly Fallout-ish), so I like exploring the ways of bringing it to life.

I really want the Necrons. Always wanted to play them. They just look so cool. Not sure I like the idea of just bodies. I have to consider if I want brute power or the zoo approach. Hard to say. In Magic terms, I do love me a big old creature to smack down with.

My son made me buy a squad of chaos marines, and I am really glad he did. These dudes look amazing, and very tweakable posture-wise. We spent the afternoon assembling and giving them names. The 1000 kill team is just 4 guys (maybe points could be squeezed 5). And you can buy a box of 5 cultists for like 10 bucks to complement them.
