Despite my disdain for 4 July stupidity, we got some mortar fireworks and are going to set the sky alight this year. I very rarely do this shit, but it was demanded of me because we decided to forego the 20,000-deep local city display.

Y'all?

Packing for a trip to Massachu, nothing crazy for us. It's not super-smart here anyway what with the ensuing infernos and all.

Stay safe!

Driving home from a three day visit to Maryland in which we hung with my dad and proceeded to:
Catch striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay
Saw some amazing historical monuments in DC
Flipped off the White House
Walked around downtown Annapolis
Played some rod hockey
Failed to sleep worth a fuck

I'm exhausted, but my wife is driving right now.

I'm in Las Vegas now, the home of bells and whistles. I assume there will be fireworks provided later in several places.

If you're driving on the MA pike, this is right off it. Killer BBQ.

I needed a good chuckle today!

So we live near a lake where all the waterfront folk spend at least 10K or more every year on fireworks. These guys do not fuck around so I don't bother with piddly contributions.

Fireworks bore me, but they terrify my cat. So I am hanging out with him while listening to some music and surfing the net. I adopted him from a no-kill shelter where they played classical music and opera in the cat section to distract from all the barking in the dog section. So he enjoys classical music, opera, soft rock, trip hop, Bob Marley, The Cure, Pink Floyd, and the like. He doesn't like punk rock, gangster rap, or heavy metal.

That's because they are boring.

I was in a small town in Northern Alberta (Whitecourt) and they couldn't afford a big fireworks festival so they handed out 3D glasses to every person in town... I swear to God this is true. Five thousand people wearing these stupid glasses looking at this horrible fireworks display. It was hilarious. All it did was make the fireworks a little blurry.

My favourite thing about fireworks is looking back at the crowd. Just a giant sea of people all looking up at roughly the same angel, surreal. It makes you feel like Rowdy Rodney Piper in They Live.

I did nothing for Canada Day (July 1st) and I generally don't as I am not a nationalist by any stretch. I did, however, search for #CanadaDay150 on twitter on one window and #Resistance150 on another. Just to see the disparity between the regular nationals and the pro-indigenous/anti-colonial groups. The divide in our country is starting to scare me.. although I suspect it's just a very vocal minority. Still, they have a point.

I don't think the divide is really there the way it is down south

One of my wife's friends drunkenly challenged me to any game at the party after he beat me in cornhole (he is apparently a ranked cornhole player). I chose the Kubb set that I brought and was sitting in the corner. After my third win, he got mad and left, but I got four commissions for Kubb sets.

Our freedoming was a leisurely 6 hour paddle on the Betsie river here in Michigan. Beer, sun, shaved prime rib sammiches, and a deserted river.

No problem, but we're not taking Steve King with us.
