I was reading the (surprisingly short) rules for this. It seems open ended and asking a lot of the players for a euroish game already... and then you get to the player powers if you look online and shit goes off the rails. The crystal dudes who license out their tech? The race that can't work their own planets and must give them to other players to work for them?

Then combine with multiturn binding deals on almost anything. The mind boggles. I have a feeling this will sit proudly unplayed next to Archipelago in my collection as a beautiful batshit game I can't get played for lack of suitably creative players.

I do love when games take the central conceit of another genre (player engine cube economies) and then shatter one of the core assumptions made by most games in the genre (self sufficiency/acquisition of supply via the game system itself ).

Love this game, certainly in my top 5 for the year.

It is mindnumbingly complex upon first blush. However, if you sit down and actually work through a few turns, you'll realize it's actually exceedingly simple at its core. You're just trying to trade cubes to produce better quantities. The player powers do up the ante and add a layer of complexity, but they're probably the best part of the game. Asymmetry out the wazoo.

My feelings on this are just about identical to Sax. I really want to play this (but not with a bunch of randos), and there's just no chance in my current gaming life.

That may not stop me from buying it and putting it on the "batshit honors" shelf, just in case.

I'm like scheming to figure out a realistic way I could play this with a crowd that would in for it.

Cracked the shrink on this and sorted through all the shit. Still scheming to play. Wonder if you could VASSAL it. Doesn't look like there's a module tho

I think you'd have to play it live with Skype or something. The negotiation and simultaneous action would be a killer.

Maybe one of the Steam virtual systems will pick it up, that could work.

Yeah, it'd be way too much to do anything besides have real time with it.

Just wanted to say that "Sidereal Confluence" sounds like a generic trademark name for a Cosmic Encounter knock-off.

Sorry, had to say it.

Some games just need to be played in person, like Twister and probably Sidereal Confluence.

If Twister came out today as a Kickstarter, somebody would ask "are there solo rules for this?"

Wanted to point out that there is a sidereal confluence expansion coming out. If I had a regular non-TTS group of insane weirdos this would probably be at the top of my list to play. I can only imagine that this a Zev vanity project. I'll try to grab a copy at some point, it isn't super big or expensive, I can't imagine it'll be successful.

I would love to play this game. I do not have the group for it. I have so few players I am probably pushing the term "group", even.

My local buy sell trade group has a copy of the first edition of SC for 15 bucks. VERY tempted to pick it up and risk it toading.

The main issue with SC isn't rules weight or length, it's space. It takes up a LOT of space. A single person's tableau can be about the size of the area needed for an entire game the size of Through the Desert. Possibly bigger.
