NO you can put on the table and have fun on 10 minutes.
Kemet has a very distinct learning curve, and new players will get destroyed.
I’d probably go for Cyclades over Kemet.

Kemet is pretty limited when you get down to it. The tech tree has more than a few options that are clearly better than others and if you play it at least 5 times, it totally kills the game.

Nexus Ops is a far superior game.
Cyclades I just love and cannot be objective about it. Is it better than Nexus Ops? Probably not but I'd play it over Nexus Ops any day only because I love it.

So many options for analysis paralysis. And like Josh mentioned some are clearly better than others, so the bloat is unneeded and makes it feel less refined.
Add to the fact that Kemet's theme likely should have been a sci fi space combat game considering the mechanics, I won't recommend it when somebody mentioned Nexus Ops in their query.
[Edit]Shameless plug:
I still have a sealed copy of the original Avalon Hill edition for non scalpers prices and am located in the twin cities to avoid extortionate shipping charges.

I love Nexus Ops because it has plastic figures, slightly intelligent dice combat, take that cards and VP collections that allows players to get knocked around a bit but still have a chance of winning. But if you have four players regularly or can buy two games then get Fortress America.
Fortress America > Nexus Ops > ...... Kemet.

I played Cyclades once, bought it, and played it a couple more times, then it went on the shelf. I keep meaning to dust it off and see if my daughter - who's interested in classical mythology - might like it.
I've played someone else's copy of Kemet exactly once.

Oii. Where to begin on the expansion?
The new divine intervention cards just add more bloat. It's just more people showing up to a party without many of them being interesting. It's fun having a houseful of folks at first, but after awhile you realize they are all just drinking your beer.
The new win condition made the turn order swing in the opposite way
The new dawn phase I found interesting and the path to ta seti was easy enough to integrate.
Long story short, the expansion provides the best and worst things about expansions. Don't buy it unless you exhaustively play kemet. There really is no need. Especially if the justification is fixing it, because it doesn't. It's just different.

If I had to have 5 DOAMs for some arbitrary reason...
Cyclades
Ascending Empires
Twilight Imperium 2nd
Eclipse
War of the Ring 2nd Ed.
You could look at others like Runewars or Conquest of Nerath or go way back to Conquest of the Empire but if you have those 5 you pretty much have everything you ever need and getting anything else is just wanting weaker shit for variety’s sake alone.
