SW Destiny?

Hey all,

Looking to get a set of Star Wars: Destiny to give to and play with my nephew at the end of the month. Any of you have a Destiny collection you'd like to get rid of (I don't need super rare shit).

Even if you don't, I don't understand the product line at all if I'm buying new. What should I be buying here to start? Looks like there are starter sets, but I'll also buy a bunch of boosters... is there like a current booster set or something? Confusing as hell to look at it at an OLGS since it has what are presumably all the old unavailable sets.

Amazing is selling two player starters for $5ish each.

Two if those will be plenty to start with and is a really good deal. Normal msrp is $30 each.

Weirdly, I'm looking at Destiny on FFG's site and they have like four lines and all are listed as available? wtf is with this product line?

There have been either 4 or 5 "waves", a wave being a set of around 200 diff cards with a fixed number of commons, uncommons,rares, and legendary cards in each set . I am guessing each line on the FFG website is a diff wave . IIRC the third wave introduced a new mechanic or two.

A pair of boosters and a some cheap rares from Ebay or a dozen boosters or so and you'll have plenty to fool around with.

Given that you have a few weeks, I would suggest keeping an eye out at various retailers (such as Best Buy, Amazon, Target, and maaaaybe Gamestop) to purchase TWO copies for the Rey base box for no more than $12 bucks a pop. As stated above, quite recently Amazon has had them for $5 and that price has come and gone repeatedly over the past 2 weeks. Two copies of that alone will both allow you to have two character dice which gets the game moving at a much quicker pace AND allow for some deck building straight away. Then, depending on your budget, pick up a booster box to allow for the excitement of the unknown. The Legacies box is currenly $80 on amazon though it did hit $65 mid-June. There is a more recent booster set just released called Way of the Force.

I got 2 starters from Best Buy for $5 each a couple of weeks ago. I ordered online and had it shipped to the store, doesn't cost anything extra for that.

$5 each is an insanely good deal.

CSI is doing 60 dollar booster boxes (awakenings, empire something or other), but for the starters I need to keep looking...

I have 30ish commons you can have for like $5 + shipping.

By this we mean the white-background two-player starter with Rey on the front, not the old Rey starter from a couple of years ago.

It's a confusing line, but it's a CCG line, so that's kind of to be expected.

Mostly this has been said already, but all of the stuff is compatible. The black-background sets are cycling out of standard competitive play in early 2019 if the schedule holds, but otherwise there's no compatibility problem between those and the white-background sets (Legacies and Way of the Force, and in November also Across the Galaxy).

I'm leaning awakenings on the cheap booster box, would you go way of the empire (something of the empire) or awakenings? Tourney play is not an issue.

If you mean Way of the Force, which is the most recent set out, I'd definitely say that if you can get a reasonable price. It's a really good set, and the impression I've gotten is that it has helped reignite interest in the game.

If you mean (as I'm guessing you do) Empire at War, I have no opinion. I really only started recently and because I do play in a semi-organized fashion I haven't been going back very far. But it's almost certainly fine for casual play.
