Apparently there is a Museum of Science Fiction, although I cannot get an address for it and it's new, so I'm guessing it hasn't purchased a building yet. But, it's having an event for Escape Velocity, a national event for STEM education. This is at National Harbor in Washington DC, the Maryland side of the river right by the Wilson Bridge.

Dominique Tipper from The Expanse will be there, and Gigi Edgeley from Farscape. Oh, and apparently some astronauts, scientists, national heroes, etc. Whatever.

My robotics team will be there showing off their robot Hippogrif that loads balls into tubes and hooks hatches onto the end of them. 120 pounds of aluminum terror.

One of the events is a Preview of the New Dune Boardgame with the designers, and a chance to play the game with them.

I just stopped by their web site to see where the event was taking place for robotics, and found an image of Dune on the page in front of me. Caught me off guard.

Did anybody else hear anything about this? It's this weekend and I haven't seen any press for it.

Ooh, is it a straight up remake of the visuals? That's exciting. I love that cover.

Yeah, but not this particular pic. Looks like they're not changing the art based on this. Hard to say for sure though.

I did see it was being redone, just didn't know that I could chat with the designers and play a round with them at a convention. If I was free I'd stop in to get a photo with them holding a sign that says, "Paul Atreides Muad'Dib loves ThereWillBe.Games"

Peter Olotka recently tweeted this image, though it’s unclear if this is the final art/cover:

That cover looks really sharp. If that's the final cover I'm on board

If this board is correct, it looks like the rounds have been reduced from 15 to 10.

It is. My own hand-made copy is like this. And it's great. It's very pretty, very clear and follows strong design principles like showing you where the spice appears on a map.

Only issue is that it doesn't explain how the Shield Wall works.

Nice catch! All my games have gone past that number but it seems it's rare with experienced players. In fact, I regreted letting the game go longer than 12 rounds when we played it.

Anyways, even thought I put a lot of work into my copy, I look foward to buying the new edition to support the designers and have somewhat better production values.

Yeah...
The museum does not have a permanent home yet. They keep looking.
Meanwhile, they've been hosting their annual at National Harbor.
It's ten miles from my house, and while I'm interested...
I'm not $50 interested.
Too rich an admission for my blood.
Though no offense for the robotics. That's freaking awesome and I hope everyone has a great experience.

I have my old school AH copy, and I'll dust it off next Friday for an epic match. I guess all sessions of Dune are epic. I wish GF9 good luck with this iteration. All signs point to a success. What would seal the deal for me? If they included the components for the Duel and Spice Harvest and offered them as alternative rules. That would be outstanding. Instead, I suspect they'll materialize as overpriced expansions (if they see the light of day at all).

So maybe it'll be out next February? And then they'll announce expansions and say they're in production and then never release them?
