Me and my son are making our first serious run at attending Origins (2 days). Anybody going? What’s hot and what’s not? Thanks in advance for the pointers!!

I'll be there. It's perhaps my favorite convention of the year.
Pro tip; do all of your dealer hall browsing before the Saturday.
Speaking of Saturday - it's the Pride Parade. Getting across the street is a bloody nightmare before, during, and after the event. Saturday in general is just chaotic.
The North Market is usually a great place for lunch, but during Origins? Everyone else thinks so too. Go elsewhere.
Have fun! If you see a grown man screaming at people on Friday night, it'll be me as the tournament organizer for a DreadBall tournament (set up in the Ohio War Kings area).

I'm going. I have more business appointments than ever before, so that's cool. I actually didn't schedule any fun stuff. I usually try to do the D&D Monster Mash miniatures event, that's always fun.

As for food, Hot Chicken Takeover in North Market is great, but you have to get there around 11 if you want to eat, because they run out every day. If you are willing to walk up High street a bit, you can go to Melt, which is great, and if you walk farther (and on the opposite side of the street) you get Condado, which is great tacos and margaritas.

I'd be up for some daytime gaming if I can fit it in.

Nah, it's not that bad. North Market is always crowded for lunch, convention or not. Barley's across the street has sauerkraut balls, which are better than it sounds.

The last time I went to Hot Chicken Takeover, they had everything but white meat right up until closing, and this was a really nice Saturday. The line is worse than the chance of running out of chicken; it's like waiting in an amusement park line. It's really good, though.

Jeni's ice cream is top-notch.

North Market's closing time is 7:00, and a lot of places close a little earlier than that.

I'll second Jenni's Ice Cream.
It's worth braving a long queue at the market for a scoop of ANYTHING.
Or, head out of downtown and go to their brick and mortar retail location.
I always go. Every year. This, even after Jenni's opened up a shop in my town (DC.)

When Jeni's is good, it's really good, but some of their flavors can be a swing and a miss. The only ice cream that I literally threw away because of the taste was Jeni's Coconut Chocolate Curry. It was like eating (flavor) hot suntan lotion.

If you're in Columbus (or Cincinnati) go find a Graeter's Ice Cream. Any flavor they have that's "x Chocolate Chip" is the bomb.

My Thursday and Friday are a bit busy with appointments, but Saturday is totally open. It would be cool to meet up with some of you. I'm traveling light, and will have on me:

1. Duhr: The Lesser Houses
2. Hellapagos
3. My new game that I'm pitching, Total Party Kill.

Anyone interested, PM me and I'll send you my phone #.

Day 1 complete. I pitched my game twice today, and got 1 no and 1 maybe. I’ll take that.

I bought an expansion for Brook City and the Dungeon World book. I’m definitely aiming to move more into role playing.

Gary, I saw a banner for a Stellaris board game KS coming soon.

I saw Dune. I want Dune. I hope to get a demo in.

For those of you who are planning to drive to Origins tomorrow, I would suggest getting your parking spot in advance. Yesterday, I drove in circles, and couldn't find a parking spot that didn't cost $25, and wasn't 10+ blocks away. After about 90 minutes of this, I said the hell with it, and drove home and had my daughter drive me down there. This morning, I got a message from a friend, who said, "No more Origins. I couldn't find a parking spot at 9 AM."

I would recommend this: parking.columbusconventions.com/Onlineti...o2sI5X7EiDUf5E%2fB8q

McConnell Parking Garage behind the Capitals arena has spots for $10. 15-min walk.

All bets are off tomorrow b/c of the Pride Parade.

Tomorrow is my last day at Origins, and I’m determined to actually play a game. The hustle has been strong this time, and I think one or more contracts may come...

I’m glad to hear this Origins has been a good one for you.

We had a fun day as con goers. We sort of fumbled around the vendor hall for the better part of the morning. After lunch we did a painting class taught by a guy I watch on YouTube. It was super relaxing. After that we got a couple games in. I really enjoyed Noctiluca from Zman. Simple, engaging, colourful. Lighter shorter games are my groove now I guess. I feel like I saw table after table with giant play boards filled with hundreds of tiny cubes and counters and I couldn’t even imagine getting into that.
