A historiography inspired thing about the ebb and flow of history - both what happens but also what is remembered - where each new game is dependent on the ones that have already been played. ... I recognise the potential vanity of it and the possibility that it just doesn't work , but the idea sounds like so much my bag it's like the stitching holding it together.

So they've started releasing actual info about this now. Cole has begun his designer diary. It's called Oath: Something Something. Still keen.

Looks like a pure shelf toad to me, especially with the historical meta-game stuff. I doubt I'll ever get to to play it enough for that stuff to matter.

It's an ambitious project for sure, so I'm interested. Supporting people pushing the edges of things is okay with me. It can go in the toad garden.

Where is he posting the developer diaries? Leder games?

Yeah, I'll buy it but I'm skeptical tbh. Wehrle is on my autobuy for now.

Same. This could definitely be his hot mess. But for me, he's the most interesting designer working right now.

Haha. Such skepticism and we'll all have a copy.
No idea if this will be the deal, but I imagine it will essentially be a scenario based game where the scenario is setup by the previous game - with the ability to still play at any count, and of course to just reset if you want. Hopefully the game play is good. Given the designer there's a good chance of that.

Interesting stuff. That thread actually gives me some hope, since it sounds like a lot of the game is more scaled back than the initial explanation led me to believe.

Might be time to start up an Oath thread for this chatter.

In that Twitter thread, Cole says that the game might be available in the first quarter of 2020, or less than six months from now. But he hasn't started playtesting yet, so even third quarter of next year might be optimistic.

As in, you don't believe it will be ready, or you have changed your mind on purchasing? Heh.

I seem to remember Root followed a similar kind of pattern, but I'm probably wrong.

I'd be shocked if it was ready, I'm still going to buy it.

Still on autobuy for me, but I'd also be amazed if it's ready in that timeframe.

But yeah, I remember Root going into playtesting, having a huge rewrite of the card mechanic in playtesting, and still basically making its release date.

Maybe there's enough already there to hit the date.

Leder Games will likely run the Kickstarter for Oath before the game is really done, and then finish it afterwards. You can look at both the last Vast and Root expansions as indication of that. So that time frame may be a "ready for KS" statement, not balanced, polished, and ready for the printers.
