Really good article about a game that i want someone else to buy and then I can play it a few times. I just know I wouldn't get it to the table enough to justify buying one myself.
Yeah, my purchase will probably have similar toad qualities... I will say that Cole's games, not just Root, are typically way more playable (and short!) than people give them credit for.

I'm sure they'll produce more polished material, but here's a playthrough of the game. It's not a teaching game so you can just watch how they play. Seems pretty dead simple to me.
Since I've been playing a ton of Root I'm very intrigued by this, but I also see more replay in Root as I've taught more people. And there's a new expansion coming out, and I've never played the winter map, etc...
Everything I'm reading is about the ebb and flow stuff which is great and really interesting to me - (to me though, not necessarily the rest of the fam who I mainly game with), but - the gameplay itself looks... finicky. Cole says "like 2 root factions" but it looks like there are CRTs in there and little arithmetic stuff and mechanical "take x energy, now spend and get this y energy which can only be used for...."... this kind of thing is a knock potentially. And it uses bots at 2, and the chances of me going regularly with more than 2 -like, sometimes, sure, but not mostly, and not regularly enough for a game with finicky kind of systems .... it's disappointing but I might have to sit this one out. I was pumped too!
Don't really give a crap about the book, or resin tokens but if the coins are as nice as the coins for Pax Pamir, it'll be a nice dumb bonus.
As expected, the thing has blown past its goals immediately and everything will be at retail so there's no need to jump to ks and order it unless you love coins and know you'll be buying it anyway.
As a side note, I find Leder Games' structure pretty interesting, almost no freelancers but full time staff designers and artists like an old school game company.
Huh, I think the book is one of the better add-ons for a game like this.
"How did the world get this way?" is one of the more important things to me in a game like this. I backed it without even really looking at the add-ons, though.
I also got a ship notice today for my Root expansion, so that's pretty good. Maybe that'll get here before they charge me for Oath.
I also like their current style of "full-timers" and no KS stretch goal/earlybird bullshit.
My Root expansion is also slightly delayed because I also ordered the upgrade kit, rather than just the expansion. (I got the game+exp1 on the original KS). But the line has been "we ship it when we have all the pieces", so I guess some more stuff has been trickling in from the printers.
I've not backed a Leder game before and I am impressed by their attitude. No stretch goals, no tricks, just back the game or don't and we give you a couple of extras as a KS backer but they aren't add ons.
Yeah, sounds like a lot of the non-biggest few regions are having shipping sticker shock in the KS comments. People keep pointing to high shipping costs and they keep saying doing it right is very expensive, that other companies they have used ended up evading taxes, or ended up costing way more than they quoted, etc.

Yeah, my Underworld expansion + Upgrade kit is scheduled to arrive next Thursday. Can't wait!
