Rainbow Six Siege gets a board game

My inspiration for pretty much the entirety of SEAL Team Flix was Rainbow Six. In fact, when Pete first suggested we change from standard dice combat to flicking (the best decision of the entire development, which changed the course of the end result), I said to him "Rainbow Flix"! And he came back with SEAL Team Flix, and that of course stuck.

Mythic is making it. As Charlie mentions below, they don't have the greatest reputation. No details are available at all, but you can see the tiniest shred of it at the VERY end of this video:

I find myself teetering between hoping it's good and jealousy that I'm not making it.

Siege is very different than traditional R6, right? When I briefly looked into it was much more cartoony and leaning a shade towards Fortnite.

Also, Mythic has a poor track record.

Siege is nothing like Fortnight. It is very different than prior R6 games, though. It's basically attackers vs. defenders with each character being a unique "hero" with weapons and skills.

Terrorist Hunt is still in Siege, but it is not the focus of the game, sadly.

I meant more in look than play when comparing it to Fortnite. I did dig the concept of the asymmetry though from what I read.

Stuff like this image gives off a far less serious vibe to me than what I remember in traditional R6.

Oh yes. Since they now have named operators with personalities, you get things like that.

It's not the R6 I cut my teeth on, but hey, that was when games just got proper expansions, not DLC.

I wonder how they will model the destructability of terrain. R6Ss big claim to fame is popping holes in walls to snipe noobs from across the map :p Although i think this game has evolved extensively from when i played it.

This is probably some slapped on IP for a run and gun modern dungeon crawl (underserved market??) but maybe not.

Mythic is starting to drip feed info on the game. Here is the best view so far, start at 4:20 for the good stuff:

I REALLY like what they are showing so far. They are modeling aspects of R6 that I never actually expected them to model, namely leaning, height advantage, etc. I really like the "pinning" aspect of operators caught on camera. I am also quite jealous of the paint jobs they have on their demo miniatures. The fact that IQ is in the game makes it an auto-buy for me. I showed one of my sons who is a Siege addict, but not much for board games. He thought it looked really cool, so I think I'll have an opponent.

There is going to be a real-time aspect to the game, but they haven't given a lot of detail on that yet. It should really make it frantic. It's optional for people who don't want it.

I still have a lot of questions but look forward to seeing more. I'm also preparing for what will likely be an expensive KS; there are so many opportunities for them to go crazy with add-ons, I hope they exercise some restraint. I can't imagine a world in which they don't do a terrorist hunt / co-op expansion. Who knows though, maybe they are really just going to lean into competitive?

One thing I find odd: They are calling the game 6: Siege. I really don't get why they can't use the full Rainbow Six Siege title.

I wonder if this is "unlicensed" from the Clancy estate or Ubi or whoever controls that name, but uses the stuff the video game made themselves (since at this point the R6 games bear little similarity to the source material). The "Six" refers to the radio call sign for a unit commander, so maybe the game is "Six:Siege" because you are playing the role of the team lead. But I gotta think shelf awareness would be 100x higher with the Rainbow in the title, though perhaps they can market just to the game players and that would probably cover most anyone who would know the Rainbow 6 name anyway.

No, it's official Ubisoft's logo is on it, the characters are the same, it's the real thing. They just aren't saying Rainbow. It's weird. Has to be some weird contractual limitation.

Apparently they got the rights to the video game but not to the title / Tom Clancy name.

The KS launches Tuesday the 22nd at 1pm EST.

Looks well done but I seldom have two-player game nights and I have too many games for two already, and I have recently pledged for Mythic Battles: Ragnarok so that will be my last 2-player game for a few years ... (more famously optimistic words to be laughed at in 12 months time)

While it is primarily a 2 player game, it supports 2 v 1 and 2 v 2.

I will also be surprised if they don't unveil a co-op mode, but who knows.

The KS is live, and priced cheaper than I expected. www.kickstarter.com/projects/1162110258/...d-game?ref=user_menu

They are doing the whole "no stretch goals, but daily unlocks" thing that seems to be the new norm. I am very surprised that they appear to have ALL of the game's operators available, which is 58 if I counted correctly. Kind of insane.

Seems like there is no PvE mode and with a 10 day campaign that already has the "all-in" pledge available, I don't think there will be one. That doesn't bother me, I think the VS gameplay here looks pretty great.
