For simple yet highly satisfying DOAM at 2-4, you really can't beat Nexus Ops, preferably the AH version. It has all the DOAM features, but everything's geared toward speed (quick engagement, fast battles, relatively low emotional investment in units).

Well, the boy had to choose between Risk 2210, Risk Star Wars OT, and classic Risk. I was hoping for 2210. He chose classic Risk.
Three players, we got started. I took off to an early lead, claiming North America and Europe. My Europe "hold" was thin as hell. My Risk-playing son had Australia, while the other son had South America and soon had Africa. Asia was up for grabs.
We pushed, we pulled, with Australia pretty much being my one son's only domain, while the other son started conquering everything. I was stomped on around mid-game, with all of my early good dice rolls turning to shit.
That son would have won, but at the 3 1/2 hour mark he peaced out. I wanted to concede but the other son really wanted to do the "I sweep across the board with a huge army" bit, so I let him do that while I rolled one or two pitiful dice, only slightly slowing his conquest. At just over 4 hours, he won it all.
Fun was had, but Risk takes too fucking long to play.

Sorry about including vanilla Risk in the mix
I still find it hard to believe that some of my buddies in college would link 2 or 3 Risk boards together and play all weekend.

No apology necessary! It was certainly a good re-introduction. I had not played Risk in over 20 years. Thanks again for the care package.
