Has anybody played Kings Dilemma? Would you be willing to share your thoughts?

From what I gather from some reviews it plays out like a meeting of the small council in an episode of A Game of Thrones.

Are the legacy elements permanent? Is it replayable?

I really enjoyed it at first. It captures the council discussions well and has some neat narrative events that occur which secure buy-in.

But after several sessions, it grew rather dull and the abstract nature of scoring in the game started to bother me. Once it became somewhat rote and chore-like, my group bailed. We never came back and finished it.

You do make permanent changes to things.

I loved it at first. We had three 4 hour sessions with the full player count. But the "game" portion (influence manipulation) is very basic and is nothing you would play without the story driving it. It also has a rich gets richer scoring issue. Also, some players disliked the role playing of thier house as most went against what they would do "in real life" but that's prolly a Us issue. Kids went back to college, so i wont be getting back to it soon.
We started playing it non destructive but decided a second play was prolly never going to happen, so used the stickers/game boards as intended.

I haven’t played it although it sounded interesting; Charlie’s comments had me holding off.

FYI a reimplementation? second edition? is kickstarting soon. “The Queen’s Dilemma,” appropriately enough. I’m hoping it fixes the issues.

Yea, looks like it has a real game behind it this time, including buildings and upgrades that will be persistent through out the campaign.

the game wants you to role play and get into the thematic motivations behind your votes and whatnot, but the actual game part of the game is "i score points if this thing moves up this track 2 spaces, so i vote that way the end". the theme and the way they obviously want you to approach things are at odds with how the actual gameplay plays out. it fell very flat for me, but if your group wants to roleplay and argue and not pay a lot attention to the actual game behind it you could probably have fun.

I think I've already talked myself out of it.

My group has only ever finished RISK legacy.

Don't need a game to keep Unfished Seafall and Unfinished Betrayel company on the shelf. (and Unfinished Gloomhaven which resides at a friends house)
