www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmon/dune-war-for-arrakis

We need another Dune game like I need another alimony payment…and yet, this is made by the War of the Ring peeps, which gives me great hope. I do not like the art style even a little bit, though.

Thoughts?

Happy to have a specific thread on it. Another place for takes on it is the kickstarter thread if you pop in over there, some people gave early thoughts.

I must not FOMO

FOMO is the mind killer.

FOMO is the forgotten about package that brings spousal conflict .

I will face my FOMO.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path and pledge another fucking Kickstarter.

Where the FOMO has gone there will be no actual playing of the game.

Only a huge ass pile of cardboard boxes and packaging material.

Are people lumping God Emperor, Heretic and Chapterhouse together with Brian and Kevin J. Anderson’s contributions in ‘other books’? Because there is a not inconsiderable difference.

No they are completely different. Besides different authors , God Emperor was a relentless slog; the vast majority of it being composed of characters inner monologues/navel gazing. The last two were MUCH better, faster paced and far more interesting IMO. The various prequel books were both bound by the limitations of prequels limiting on how much suspense there would be as well as being much shallower stories IMO.

I never made it through or past god emperor. That book was really something. Doesn't really matter how good or bad stuff got after that, it's all shades of who cares at some point ;)

All I remember from the second book is how much of it was based around "Should I fuck my sister?"

I made it through Frank's work and the last one nearly broke me.
Talk about a law of diminishing returns.

(I found Emperor oddly compelling)

I've said it before here, and I'll say it again.
"I don't give a fuck about Duncan Idaho."

The most recent DUNE film gave too much screen time to Duncan IMO, at the expense of Gurney and Thurfir. I wonder if that was laying the ground work for sequels.

www.thedigitalfix.com/dune/denis-villene...ke-three-dune-movies

Villeneuve has expressed interest in making Dune: Messiah but has said nothing about any Dune sequels after that. He is probably aware that God Emperor is unfilmable and Children of Dune shifts focus to a couple of kids. Personally, I think that it might be better to stop at two movies covering the original book.

The SciFy adaptation of MESSIAH/CHILDREN OF DUNE was decent, esp considering their small budget. It does suffer a bit in that as you mention, the focus shifts to the children of Paul as well as his sister and mother. And I have a hard time envisioning Chalemet as an old, bitter blind Paul. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it happen.

If the movies are a financial success, the studio will no doubt want to milk the franchise for all its worth. Whether that involves Villenueve long term or not who knows.

Peter Dinklage for Bijaz the dwarf would be cool.

I mean, that's Jaime Lannister's entire character arc.

Haven't seen a Dune trick-taker yet. A game representing the shield combat from the books, where you slip the barrier by swinging your knife slightly slower than you possibly can. Trick would go to the second highest card or something, I don't play enough of those types of games to really guess at mechanics.

Also Loopin' Leto, a take on Loopin' Louie about a horrifying man-sandworm hybrid trying to eat Mentats in the desert.
