Wiz-War has returned, and it looks horrible!

I was the moron that started the Wiz-War hate-thread over at the other site. (Wasn't my intention to hate, just said I was going to pass on it!) My opinion hasn't changed at all now that the Kickstarter is running. I have the 8th edition with all the expansions... there's really no reason for me to back this one. I'm not a fan of the presentation (artwork or lack there of). I don't need 6 players capability. So in short, yeah it's a pass for me. I shouldn't be surprised by the amount of shouting down (on both sides) going on in that thread.

I decided to actually back it instead of wait for retail, but people who really liked the FFG edition are welcome to keep enjoying it.

I don't think much of the cover, but the rest of the package looks like exactly what I wanted to see back in print (the Q&A in the Kickstarter thread from Jackson basically confirms this).

If you go way back to the early announcements where everyone said "Steve Jackson, ugggggh" my take was "probably a good fit, really". SJG production timing issues aside, I think that's basically true.

So overall I'm pretty happy with it, but I recognize that some of the appeal of the FFG edition was the FFG style of art on the cards and minis. That was all fluff on top of a game I already liked, so easy-come, easy-go.

Don't you understand that at the heart of every great user-based online forum is a (strictly enforced) code of absolute unanimity of positive opinions?!? Look, I think you need to scrub BGG of every negative thought you have expressed lest you be labeled a "disruptor" for the rest of your days. Yeah, you can't "pass" on a game at BGG, that's a faux pas. You must damn it with faint praise and rate it a Weak 7.

I am betraying my age in this hobby by remember the Larry Levy article that prompted the "weak 7" joke.

Based on the checkout process for this new WIz-War, I wonder if it's just all an effort to make us look through their online catalogue.

But then I realised nobody at SJ games puts that much thought into anything.
