Later this year Wizkids is releasing an updated version of Ascending Empires. It has two neoprene mats for the board, and a ton of miniatures. The rules have been updated and re-balanced, and the flicking pieces were changed to be more flickable. I was really excited about this until I saw the price tag of $140 MSRP. I really like this game but I don't think I can justify the price when I have the original with a custom board I made. I thought maybe I could just incorporate the changes into my version. Then I realized I haven't played it in ten years. I don't need this, or the sunk time of converting my original. If I ever play this again, and that's a big IF, I think my original will be just fine. It's time to realistic about my gaming habits these days.

Neoprene mats are a huge chunk of that $140 price tag.

I dig this game but some balance oddities always bothered me. I'm hoping the techs are rebalanced.
That price tag is high.

No specific reason to mention this, but if one wanted to drop some cash on a neoprene-decked flicking game, one might wait 20 days. Theoretically.
