FFG just announced that they are kickstarting a remastered version of Arkham Horror 2nd edition, starting this October. Link:

gamefound.com/en/projects/asmodee/arkham-horror

Apparently it will be all of 2nd edition, including both big box and small box expansions. The graphic design looks dramatically different, more user-friendly but less atmospheric.

Although I am a huge fan of Arkham Horror 2nd edition, I am going to pass on this remastered version. I have all of the original content and I am not seeing enough differences to justify what will like be a pledge of at least a few hundred dollars.

Oh, you KNOW they're bringing back the Investigator miniatures.

The most expensive piece of my AH collection was the Arkham Nights Old Ones, and I think the sum total of what I've spent to collect all of 2e is still going to be dwarfed by a new Kickstarter.

I like that people will get a chance to buy the game easily, if they want. This is a classic that should always be around.

I sold my 2E collection about 8 years ago when I decided I had played it enough and had too many other games needing playing plus I moving towards campaign narrative games but other conflicty games by european designers. Then a couple of years ago I picked up a copy of the base game cheaply in a BGG Math Trade just to have around for occasional horror themed sessions so my resolve didn't hold for too long (and I also rebought Eldritch Horror :pinch: ) although Machina Arcana is my go to horror fix these days ... but I did see this announced and I will have a look when it launches

I don't really need it, I"m happy enough with my current 2nd ed stuff, but I'll be curious what edges they nip and tuck. I definitely think it could use a holistic look at the various expansion to make the difficulty and stuff more regular between them or at least labelled what is hard mode stuff and what is normal mode stuff.

I played a lot of 2nd edition solo in my baby jail days. I would like to be able to pick up some the expansions I never got, I wonder if that will be an option.

Unfortunately, they changed the graphic design of all of the components for this remastered edition, including card backs. The biggest challenge would be the new monster tokens, which have a pentagonal shape. However, once people receive the remastered edition next year, there might be a bunch of original 2e expansions up for sale at more reasonable prices. That happened after the 10th anniversary edition of Firefly was delivered.

I am as big as MoV as anyone, but my recollection is that the FFG edition got a pretty lukewarm reception. And the rights were a bit of a mess IIRC, as they did a dual version - FFG reskin and "Classic".

If someone were to do it again, I think it would be better off from a non FFG source, and embrace some of the retro look and feel of the AH version. Graphically along the lines of MOON COLONY BLOODBATH or something along those lines.
