But Druen, you could be drawing a card and because it has a slightly different cardback YOU COULD POSSIBLY KNOW THAT THE CARD MIGHT BE "THIS COULD BE OUR LAST NIGHT ON EARTH"! Think about what that does to the balance, the strategy.

Oh geez - those are the absolute worst posters on BGG and they truly define the term eurosnoot. Can you imagine the meltdown if the box was hard to open on top of the boards not matching exactly? They might have a collective stroke. Wait a minute...that could be a good thing...

I can safely report that my copy of Last Night on Earth took about 15 seconds to open. That's longer than your average Eurogame but still better than the 30 or so minutes it takes to open Red Planet...

The 1st printing of the base game turned out darker than planned but it gave the
boards a look that fit the game theme. So the expansion boards are said to be too light
to match the orginal game boards giving the town a sort of night in one location &
day in another.
So if you had a 2nd printing base game & the expansions everything matches if you
got the 1st printing base game & the expansion you have a rather mismatched town.
FFP said they are looking into to how to correct this for those who have the
1st printing of LNoE(which after all were the buyers who made the game a success
and an expansion possible).
Yes its a "Geek Storm"but it a not inexpensive game & the expansion is ment to
be mixed in with the base game boards so I can see where people are a little put off.
FFP obviously knew the boards didn't match but never said anything until the product
was in players hands & the complaints started.

If it is just the boards, I wouldn't give a damn. Plus having the darker boards of the 1st printing gives you early adopter bragging rights. Actually, considering the type of players who have embraced LNoE, I bet most of them don't care about the mis-matched boards. It's probably just a small vocal minority that are complaining.

Bingo.
It became a non-issue as soon as Flying Frog indicated they're looking into how to fix it. My guess is they'll do a run of "darker" tiles for early adopters. And yet...people are still bitching about it. I'm willing to bet they changed printers and were a bit surprised by the lighter results, but it was too late and too expensive to trash that batch. I'm sure the expansion went to print with the new base game so the issue wasn't known to them until BOTH had been printed...quite a problem just to chunk all that product.
Reapersaurus bitching about something? Perish the thought.
My brother bought a copy of this today...we stopped by the comic shop and there it was. The bastard had money and I didn't, so he scooped it up. The production quality is NICE. The scenario cards and character cards are really nice and thick, the new cards have a good finish and don't suffer from the 'stuck together' problem that some talked about with the 1st print run, those minis are incredibly detailed (down to the buttons on shirts, even...AMAZING molds on these suckers), and the board sections look to be of strong quality.
Haven't gotten to listen to the CD yet...that should be great.
Just from appearances alone, a great example of a smaller company doing a knockout production at an affordable price. We'll probably squeeze in a game this weekend and I can offer better opinions on it.

Actually I think I read that they're considering making base set lighter boards available to early buyers. Makes sense, that way they only have to provide "replacements" once, instead of for every future expansion. And they only have to print some extras, instead of an entirely new print run for darker Growing Hunger boards.

There were several complaint threads of course... It's a good CD, a nice unobtrusive background atmosphere. If there's a player nearby I'll put it on as it does add to the experience.
