It is actually really difficult to tell someone who refuses to pick up on social cues "tough titties" to their face without it getting really loud and really ugly really fast.

Unfortunately my voice carries, so the groups who were playing in the other rooms and who had managed to avoid Filler Fred, the fun murdering leech got to hear me being the bitch.

Fourtunately, my friend's backyard is adjacent to the Elks lodge, so my boys and I abandoned the party, jumped the fence and pounded a few at the bar.

Goodness me! That sounds just like a real club.

Things didn't get that bad with us apart from the time one of the guys in a samurai battle refused to accept that his manoeuvre was not allowed. We'd specifically included that anything not allowed in the rules was disallowed (we know our people), but he still argued that it didn't say in the rules he couldn't do it.

The umpire walked away from the game rather than murder the player, but that guy didn't get many more games under his belt after that. So he's become a preacher now, having written a dismal thesis on goth subculture. He's just too blind to see...

You need to get a few of - nah, a lot of the F:AT crew around as 'guests' for a day and crank up a marathon Arkham game ... and then you can just sit back and watch the fun as he tells Barnes to hurry up and Ken that he doesn't think much of his game and Steve Avery that tanktops do not make the dresscode.

Kingmaker _does_ tend to bog down after all the nobles are out. It might be groupthink in my crowd, but it always degenerates into "Let me throw my 10-value noble at your monster pile to see if I can't kill one of your boss nobles with a kamikaze attack." Eventually everyone gets bored of that and lines up for a big showdown at the end just to make something happen.

I wonder if keeping a small hand of Event Deck cards wouldn't speed that up, so you can keep 3 or 4 cards as gotchas that you could play instead of drawing up a card.

Well I hope it turns out well for you on that. Sadly, you probably turned out to be the bad guy because you were the one that had to tell him even though he was clearly the wrong one.

Regarding "fast food" euro games: Yes, it amazes me that people will sit there with a straight face and tell you a 5 hour game is too long to play, but they will happily make the time to play 5, 1 hour games. It always begs the questions- well what if the 5 hour game is more fun? Isn't the point to have fun, not to play the most games?

but dude, how am i going to rack up the 10000+ games played on BGG to be able to make an announcement thread of "I HAVE JUST PLAYED GAME 10000!" if i take this attitude?

I've reached my 10,000 hour of playing Cosmic Cows. Neither of us can seem to get our 3 cows up.

Yet somehow this is a better game than Yahtzee. At least Yahtzee has a defined ending point. At most you are only going to throw the dice 39 times. Cosmic Cows could last forever....
