Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
Band of Brothers discussion
Anyway, I'm thinking it's going to be my next wargame purchase. Unfortunately, Screaming Eagles is out of print, so it'd probably have to be the BOB Ghost Panzer east front game.
Overall, my reasoning being that I actually have an opponent who would be way into a tactical WWII game. He's a Russian specialist so he would like the East Front anyway. Band of Brothers seems like a simple system and I've liked what I've heard of it. Anybody been playing the system recently or have any comments? We had a nice comparative tactical game system discussion last summer here, wondering if anyone had more specific thoughts for this series. (That thread makes me miss Dogmatix!)

Finally, anyone vassal this or be interested in vassaling it?

It's very quick and scarily realistic from such light rules. The only problem is that the whole find, fix, flank, finish thing is the key to about 90% of the scenarios and it can get a little samey. But only a little.

...because that would be fun for me.
The other fun thing would be if ever I had the great honour of meeting anyone from Easy company (or hell, anyone from the 101st Airbourne, really) I could tell them that I had much better results taking Foy. Or that getting through unmerciful shellings in Bastogne isn't so bad if you roll well.

MattDP is right on one thing. It's almost a one trick pony. But it's a very good pony!
The numbers are so HARSH, you'll be forced to apply "real world tactics". Designer sure got balls for doing that.

Have you guys found it takes away from the narrative? That you'd rather play a more action-hero type tactical game? Or that it overly-restricts your options?
Probably just going to get Ghost Panzer.

The thing is, the game's got one of the most solid cores I've ever known. It simulates the thing I want to be simulated, instead of adding gamey layer on top of it.
Compare it with, say, Mage Knight. Fantasy adventure is not the most strategic or tactical genre, so it added a layer to be a great game. Gears of War uses card to add a layer of tactical play to the game. Mind you, both work, and both also provide great narrative.
What makes BoB so compelling is the core play of suppression and maneuver. Other tactical, "more action-hero", games usually have basic movement rules, basic morale rules, a lot of combat rules, and a bunch of special rules. Those are what make the games tick. Not with BoB. War heroes become heroes because of what they do in combat. They do not enter the battlefield as heroes and provide special abilities or perks to line troops.
BUT.
I can imagine people seeing it being sterile. It's almost like the Chess of wargames.
