Great news! Due to your support we just placed reorders for Field Commander Rommel, Down In Flames Aces High, and Field Commander Alexander! We’re expecting the new print runs to arrive in early July. If you’d to buy any of these games, please order now. We only have a few copies of each game in stock.

We’ve added several support pages for your Alexander Immortality rankings. The first is the turn log we used during playtest to record actions and choices. There is also a sample page filled out showing how it all works. We’ve also started adding player submitted Immortality scores and summaries. If you’d like yours posted, please send them in!

We’ve also added a few more stores on to our store locator.

That's it. It's time to get down to Canton Games and take a look at some of these.

A hugely updated Frontline slideshow!

We’re launching an experiment in game publishing. We’ve posted the first text applied to paper (well, pixels applied to screen, to be completely accurate) for the Frontline rules. We thought it would be interesting for everyone to follow the process of how a rulebook starts, takes shape, and is finalized. Every game company does things differently, but for us, a game goes through so many early changes that we don’t bother with a rulebook until the game solidifies. This first draft is only a partial outline, but this is how it starts. Up until this point in the design process, the game’s “rules” are scribbled on crumpled napkins, sheets of notebook paper, and mostly kept in our heads. Many rule sections have started life on the back of a McDonald’s tray liner during lunch.

This is a great idea. I'm really looking forward to it.

Long live McDonald's!

Dan,

I think I'm going to pick up one of the Field Commander games. Is there one in the series that you would particularly recommend to someone with little experience with war games?

Barefoot,

Hmm... Good question.

The two games are very different in feel, even though they share the same core system.

In Rommel, the opposing forces are mobile, so some game time is devoted to their movements and actions. In Alexander, the opposing forces are stationary, so you devote more time to your own forces, glory, advisors, etc.

Do you have a preference for WWII or Ancients?

I don't really have a preference as far as historical context. Based on your brief comparison, the mechanics in Rommel intrigues me a wee bit more.

Do you expect to release the Napoleon installment this year?

We're hoping to announce Napoleon for pre-order in a few weeks. After that, it all depends on the rate pre-orders come in.

Announcing June 6th, 2009 as being D(VG)-Day!
June 6th, 1944 was one of the most important battles of WWII as 2 great armies met in combat.
June 6th, 2009 starts the pre-order battle to send two great games to the printer: Frontline D-Day and Phantom Leader.
Each week, we will release new information for these games until victory is assured and the printing presses are rolling!

The Frontline rules have gone through another generation of updates. They are still in rough outline form, but many more rules have been added to fill out the sections.
images.dvg.com/www.dvg.com/frontlinerules2.pdf

We’ve also updated the Frontline slideshow with new soldier and vehicle cards!
www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/26/Frontline%20-%20D-Day

Also added are the Phantom Leader rules. They are much farther along than the Frontline rules, but they still have a ways to go. There are still many blank spots where graphics will be added.

We had a great time at the Memorial Day Los Angeles game convention last weekend. We were very excited to be their Guest of Honor. Eric Burgess was kind enough to invite Dan to be part of a podcast discussing game design theory and operating a game company. Here are the links to the podcast streaming from BGG…

and Eric’s web site, Boardgame Babylon…

A few people have reported problems seeing the web site. The web guys have made some updates and I know there has been some success. If you’re receiving this as part of our newsletter or posting on a web site and have had problems, please give it another try and let me know if you still see a blank page.

Jesse Cheng, our demo Team Leader, ran a hugely successful week of demos and games at Consimworld’s Expo this past week. He manned the DVG booth, demoed games, and introduced many new people to our games. Many thanks Jesse! If you have an interest in demoing our games, please contact us and we’ll put you in contact with Jesse.

Christopher "Kozure" Ono will be running a DIF tournament on Saturday, June 27th. Thank you Christopher! Here’s a link for details…
