Edge of Darkness?

Alright, so I avoid all these big 200 dollar kickstarters, even if they look good, because I just don't want to be saddled with a stinker. I read Chris Farrell's early plays of this one from AEG and it's super intriguing, part of me wishes I had backed it. Y'all know I do like weird work placement. I get that this is kind of a "fuck you, worker placement and passive aggressive stuff about fantasy guilds is dumb!" thing for most of this site's contributors, but I like this kind of shit usually.

Any of you tried this game? Should I hunt down a KS copy? I think it looks cool. Would love to hear someone who has tried it, less love to hear about how this sort of game style or release style sucks. I'm right there with you on release style but this is the world we live in so if it's great I'll have to figure out how to get a copy.

Still interested if anybody has played this---it still looks like my shit but I will be god damned if I am wasting that much money without some trusted comments.

Best I can offer is that I know someone who owns it but they don’t turn up very often at the club and usually play dull beige games when they do. I don’t think it’s likely I’ll see it any time soon but I can ask them if they are interested in bringing it along one night. I’ll try most things once.

A friend just traded a copy of Love Letter for a KS copy of this earlier today. Looks like we're going to try it out at game night on Wednesday. I can report back after that.

So, my friend got a chance to try it with some other people yesterday and has already decided to pass it on (and has already found a buyer). His summary: "So I tried edge of darkness...and it's decidedly meh. Way fiddley and the mechanics are kind of neat but you don't feel like you're accomplishing anything." Needless to say, we won't be playing it on Wednesday.

I don't know why the post on this I made last night died, maybe it was a fever dream of mine, but So Very Wrong About Games really did not like this one either:

Aside from Love Letter and the Legend of the Five Rings product line, AEG doesn't have a great track record with games. Thunderstone was popular, but White Castle hamburgers are also popular. I feel like AEG has some good ideas for games, but the implementation tends to disappoint.

White Castle burgers are fine, it's the aftermath that's the problem.
