Dark Blood on Gamefound

I am pledging for Dark Blood. gamefound.com/en/projects/meeple-pug/dar...=homepage-featured_3

It comes across like a Cthulhu Wars but more Euro, while having enough interaction to still appeal to me. I was also very surprised to see that if you spread your payment over 10 installments, it's literally the same price. Why would I not do that, then?

They mention different win rates across the 4 factions, which is perhaps a bit alarming, but I would bet there are wildly different win rates across the Cthulhu Wars factions as well. It all comes down to being able to learn the nuances of your faction. I think this one looks good.

I have not done much in the way of crowdfunding lately, which is obviously a good thing.

It looks like the team did not anticipate the success they are having, as they burned through all of their stretch goals in a day. Almost all of the stretch goals are just component upgrades, some of which are beyond superfluous (putting the main board art also on the back of the board, so you can.... admire it? When would someone do this?)

On one hand, I appreciate that it seems like they made the game as they wanted it, with no intention of adding a bunch of stuff to it with stretch goals. On the other hand, I think there are better goals they could have chosen.

A more experienced team would have just changed the amount “required” to get stretch goals based on what was being pledged. If things are heating up, make the amounts higher. When things slow down, make them lower.

Yeah, their dollar amounts are weird. They also pulled the trick of setting a ridiculously unrealistic funding goal so that they could FUND IN UNDER 10 MINUTES.

It was something like $22k. For a game that has several miniature sculpts. I don't think so.

I'm also not sure if the Gamefound platform lets you change amounts once they are entered. They might have loaded it up with stretch goals in advance and then been forced to keep them.

This is the kind of game I'd like to play somebody else's copy of.

So with that disclosure out of the way: a BS funding goal, an overwhelming amount of stretch goals and the inclusion of professional shills Boardgame Co and Quakalope are everything I find extremely off-putting about crowdfunding.
