A Family Boardgame Suggestion

I seldom think about family boardgames because we're content playing a few favorites over and over. Looks like we're going to shed some though (pretty much everything not named Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride). However, I might replace a few with some smaller, high quality games.

Bohnanza is one.

I'd like one more. Something like Hive maybe but plays at least 4. Needs to be able to be played by a 6 year old.

Any suggestion?

Yeti is fun. Simple but not too simple, mechanics people have used for decades.

If you want simpler, I love Chinese Checkers. Plays 6 and takes 2 seconds to explain

Both have given great suggestions, but looking for something with a smaller footprint...both storage and during play.

Games like Bohananza, love letter, sleeping queens, that sort of thing. We do a bit of camping and travelling so titles that can be thrown in a back pack. Still, deep though...I don't find Sleeping Queens too deep...

We brought out Timeline at the last family vacation get together and it was well received.

Coloretto.

We _might_ drop Zooloretto. Is Coloretto good? A decent swap?

Imma recommend red November as well. I would suggest others, but I'd you can find the first FFG version, its a lot of game packed into a tiny package.

Ffgs new version of risk express would be good too. Some Japanese retheme call war or something.

Carcassonne is still solid after all these years. Has expansion potential, but I kind of prefer just the base game with the River.
Bohnanza is a good pick.

Coloretto is a good distillation of the Zooloretto mechanics but something about it isn't as endearing as Zooloretto. Aquaretto is my favorite of the bunch.

Condottierre if you can find a copy for a decent price.

I think the new version of Hey! That's my Fish! comes in a tiny box. It can be very mean and strategic, though.

Also:

Spookies (Can't Stop type game, but more family friendly)
Circus Flohcati
Cartagena 2 (still in print?)
Evolution: The Beginning
For Sale
Hanabi (older kids, maybe?)
Loot
Unspeakable Words

Red November is pretty mathy, but it could work with young 'uns. As long as massive amounts of in-game vodka are fine. Isn't the small-box LOTR coop game still in print? That's less number-centric, to be sure.

Age of War is the Risk Express re-theme. Otherwise identical gameplay.

We play a lot of Fireball Island, worst footprint ever. The 1st edition of Samurai could work. It's about as abstract and similar to Hive as you're likely to find and great for four. Ingenious too if you can find a small box for it. Cave Troll silver line edition is another good choice. Simple, good for kids.

Good deck of cards, like KEM is a great investment. For 6yo, you're seeing CRAZY 8s, CASINO (if they can add), OH HELL (some WHIST variant), maybe SETBACK PITCH. In 2p, you learn FLASH, SPIT, &c. CRIBBAGE is nice for the older set.

See if you can track down an old WotC game called TWITCH. It was great.

Yeah, I'd rather play Euchre or something like that over most hobby games in the same depth range.

Sushi Go! is fun for larger crowds but kind of sucks with the smaller groups.
