It sucks not having a regular gaming group like I enjoyed in Kansas City.
2017 - 40 games played
15 of those were Codenames with family
3 of Battle Cry with a fellow worker. We thought it would be a weekly thing, but schedules were changed.
3 of Donner Party with family

Played it again today and nope, it's not that quick, it's about an hour. Still fast, though I do know all the cards and am a pretty fast player.

It's fun for the whole family! Hey honey, don't forget to use your flossing ability after playing the cannibalism card! Why have I never heard of this game?

Terraforming Mars, easily. I got in about 50 multi-player games, and about the same number of solitaire games in 2017.

Terraforming Mars is close to being the perfect game for me, and is easily in the top 3 of the best new games I have tried in the last decade. Great theme, mechanically fascinating, and with experience it even plays fast (playing three 5-player games in an evening is not unheard of here).

I even like the components and the graphics. :)

In my games with the wife, I'd count it a fast game if we finish in under two hours.

I know if you're not careful in our games, you might not be able to get all three parameters raised quickly, and might end up getting your ass kicked by better point engines. Voice of experience here - the last game my wife won, I pushed O2 and oceans, didn't get cards to raise heat, and watched her kick my ass with more money.

I haven't played two-player a lot, but at least when comparing the three-player game to four and five players, it seems that the fewer players, the more potential for long, drawn-out games where the better engines mostly win. With four and especially five players, that rarely happens; usually at least a couple of players try to race the game to its end, and everybody just try to get as much done as possible before the game inevitably ends.

With three players, it's often easier for a single player to have controlling influence on the length of the game (we're just talking a single extra generation here, but late in the game that's massive, of course). I had one game where two of us tried to end the game, but didn't quite manage, much to the delight of the third, engine-building player who thereby got an extra generation. He ended up winning, of course, but that extra generation alone took over an hour to play (I passed after about 10 minutes...).

Mainly for that reason, I prefer the game with four or five players: There's less engine/tableau-building, more interaction, and the pacing of the game just feels better to me.
