Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
Holiday Sales 2018
For the record, I’m neither pro nor anti KS. I’ve come to terms with it, and a lot of what some people are clamoring for doesn’t get to just happen without it. Continuing to kick against it is clueless and a little regressive.
Sag, I love ya man, it your reasoning is off. CMON’s failure can’t be chocked up to KS losing it’s charm. Plenty of KS backed games do fail at retail, just as ones by established publishers do. Yet the cream still rises to the top. Blood Rage did well at retail. Root, Spirit Island, Western Legends, all those games can’t stay on the shelves at my LGS, all without the KS exclusive bells and whistles. I can only imagine the new Fireball Island will have similar success. Again, CMON’s troubles are _entirely_ based on an overly redundant product line.

Reminds me that I need to pick this up for my buddy for Christmas. Thanks!

The problem is when one game underperforms- like, say Massive Darkness- it takes like 10-15 SKUs with it. Distributors and retailers are left with junk product. Then they try to double down on their successful titles not by expanding them (because the expansions are already out) but by introducing entirely new games with their own expansions that render previous titles redundant.
Think about it. When Random Dungeon Crawl from publisher XYZ tanks and is on the clearance shelf...that could be one title. When Massive Darkness tanks, that is a SHITLOAD of capital investment down the tubes. All that development, writing, art, tooling, manufacturing, etc. for a product line that is pretty much DOA.
“Convention expenses” or whatever is an excuse. This is a case where they were left holding the bag on several underperforming product lines and couldn’t recoup costs. I would wager that they are being kept afloat right now mostly on the back of that stupid fucking Cthulhu statue...
Anyway, my GOTY list will probably surprise.....no one. Yes, Root is there. I do not agree that Root needed Kickstarter. I don’t know a publisher of means that WOULDN’T have taken Root. I would have known that game had the special sauce after 3 turns. If I were a publisher I would have grabbed it up and signed papers in a heartbeat. Now, what wouldn’t have made it into a theoretical traditionally published version of the game is the art. I think most publishers wouldn’t have kept it or would have insisted on changes. That, however, is one of the disruptive elements that turns out to be one of its strongest and most iconic aspects. I would have done the art...but if it had gone to GMT, Iello, Asmodee, wherever...it would look different.

EDIT: looking at the list of publishers on that game, maybe Asmodee came to the game to late to have any influence in the art direction, making my comment moot.

$140 Man O'War (OOP) - Games Workshop. THE best fantasy naval combat game. Comes with both expansions - Plague Fleet (Chaos fleets) and Sea of Blood (monsters and flyers); includes smaller ship cards that can be marked with white board erasable markers to speed setup and play; Dwarf and Elf fleets are painted. Comes with additional boxes with ships etc. Will throw in a bag of extra masts and metal and plastic bits for WH and 40K. Base box has moderate shelf wear.
$80 Horus Heresy (OOP) - Games Workshop 30K. The war-game about the battle for Terra and the empire. Fantastic game. Components are in excellent condition, but box has shelf wear.
$40 Storms of Steel - Conflict of Heroes; highly rated WWII war game, lots of armor in this one. Excellent condition.
