We were discussing this on local Games Workshop Group. It turns out GW manufactured their plastic model in UK (and probably US), but printed materials and some terrain kits/base in China.

Honestly, I think people in the US have the least right of complaining a price increase. They're already paying the lowest for board game hobby.

We make up for it with our health care premiums.

People are funny. They will complain about a few dollars’ increase on board games being the apocalypse, due to a politician’s actions, and will still vote for him in the next election.

They write about supporting piracy to save a few dollars but they like to earn a decent wage in their own professions.

It's crazy how everyone assumes that a 25% tariff means the final price for the consumer will also rise by 25%. And how everyone blames Trump as if the United States had just turned protectionist today and it had no sky-high tariffs on all kinds of products ranging from shoes to cheese.

Really, this is complete nonsense. The "developers will lose their jobs" and "FLGS will close!" fearmongering is nonsense. We'll all be here in 6 months or a year and nothing will change.

Ultimately, the only thing that will change is the excuse to pay designers, artists and translators peanuts. Ahh, you see, our huge boardgame conglomerate can't afford to pay you a living wage because there's a tariff that makes everything superexpensive!

Gary Sax wrote: It's wild how this could affect kickstarters/preorders. Now we get to see who priced trade barrier risk into their estimates. Preview: probably no one.

Like I said on Twitter: Who cares about managing risk when consumers are the ones taking it for you?

Remember when the increase in oil prices and shipping costs was going to be the death of board gaming?

I just did a cursory "back of the box" check on my shelf, and looks like my rough distribution is 40% Made In Germany, 40% China, and 20% other places; I was surprised/happy to see Rio Grande Games made Roll For The Galaxy in the USA. One of my favorite games made under (hopefully) fair working conditions. I hope the same can be said for the German-made games I have, but I feel bad knowing a little less than half of my collection likely originated in terrible working conditions.
