Had it for a while, it was okay, a very Euro-y take on civ building. It’s very much about balancing resources more than technological growth, military action or physical expansion. Interesting bits were the asymmetrical powers and the high cost of making drastic changes in your civ. Ultimately I prefer Through the Ages, but I think it’s still worth giving Nations a few plays even if I doubt it will ultimately be a keeper.

I’m the one person who hates Through the Ages. Nations was the game I wished TtA was.

Its basically TtA lite; there are some pretty obvious parallels between the two. It plays a bit quicker. Military is more abstracted. The components are a bit whacky; you collect resource counters that are kind of clunky and the cards have miniscule icons in the lower corners that make them hard to sort.
NATIONS THE DICE GAME is a decent filler .

I'm quite fond of Nations. I think the war mechanic works well and the wonders are *just* flavorful enough with special powers to cut the otherwise relatively plain (especially early) buildings.
I never get a chance to play it but it remains on my shelf. I think frequently about just sending it away because it's so unlikely to get played, it sits behind Clash of Cultures which is on the forever shelf and also doesn't get played. If I was going to get a civ game played, it would be Clash even though I like Nations.

I think this might be a good fit for playing with my wife. She likes civilization building without the direct conflict. So, a euro type will probably fit the bill.

I like it as a step towards my ideal Civ game that recognizes the influence of more than just warfare.
